Why Does Ns Have To Be So Damn Dark

When TFC and other mods look fine?
I searched. I found many topics, I read them all. Some offered no solutions. Another: "I fixed the problem so I deleted my post and didn't tell anyone how to fix it". I am now hunting an answer.

NS is always ridiculously dark on my computer. When I play it, I cannot see anything without the aid of my gamma controls. Looking at people's screen shots, I still cannot see anything noteworthy until I up my gamma. Unfortunately, increasing the gamma makes the models in the game ridiculously bright, while the actual map is only just becoming visible. None of my other HL mods (steam) do this.

Before you tell me that my monitor is set too dark, it is set to 100% of both brightness and contrast. I have tried changing the colour temperature up/down to no positive effect. I have tried everything humanly possible with my monitor to brighten it. I have even tried a different monitor, to no effect.

Now, before you tell me that it's "part of the atmosphere" and that I should "learn to live with it", let me give you an example of how dark it is. I turn a corner and if it were not for the power light on the monitor I would think that my monitor had switched itself off. It's that bad.

Please, for the love of God, there must be an answer to this problem!

My question:

Is it at all possible to make the world brighter without making the entities glow like light bulbs?

I certainly hope there is.

There are two controls you need to adjust using your console.

    Brightness
    and
    gamma

Increase brightness to about 10 - see what ns_nothing looks like to you. Scale it down until the world is not insanely bright.

You will need to reload the level every time you change these settings for them to be applied. Until you do so, only the entities change in brightness.

That, or buy a new monitor !

WOW! Thank you SO much Parallax! The brightness setting worked wonders! It's a shame more people don't know about it. That really should be documented somewhere (eg sticky or even the NS manual)!

Does that mean you could technically make a script to give you a hive sight flashlight thing? (that lights up the players...)

have your default be lowish, and then when you hit a key, make it change brightness, so entities are affected? and hit it again to change it back? lol

If you have problems with seeing stuff in NS:
Runn Gamma Tweak (it comes with NS, it unfortunatly is NOT in the beta zip, however it is in regular NS)
