I think it comes down to adrenaline and keeping at something for too long. I get the same feeling if I listen to the same song for many hours while doing something stressfull that I need to get done(damn song keeps looping in your head eerily for minutes afterwards, you can sort of hear it though your not trying to think about it or even trying to make it stop.)
Could it be something like a <i>very</i> mild version of what vietnam war vets(etc.) go through? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I wouldn't say it's insane. I do recall experiencing such things after a decent session of DOOM back in the early 90s. I would close my eyes, and literally see myself walking through endless, colorless halls. I haven't experienced anything like this lately. Still, these experiences probably occur due to the immersive nature of FPS games. Although these games are not real, the stress caused by them is very real, and it's easy for your brain to forget it's just a game.
Before my NS crazy, I ****d DoD like no other. Got to the point that while walking through school one day, swear to God I heard:
"POINT CAPTURED!" I was like, aww **** damn Germans got teh point! Then I remembered where I was. Told my friends that, and they used it to their advantage once.
They were trying to call me from up on the second floor at school once, yelling my name across the field I was on. Meh being the deaf ear I am, didn't hear them, till one of my friends got smart and yelled:
"POINT CAPTURED!!" That whipped my head around for sure... They laughed for quite a bit after. Hey, whatever works, works...
I haven't developed NS syndromes yet, but I do hear phases and gunfire in the background from time to time...
wow the tails here are rediculous... and now to my confession: i have nt played v3 yet cause my onboard vidcard anit supported, my dad is doing his doctorate on something along the lines of teacher methods and student pychology (hope i spelt that moderately right!) and has diagnosied me with a 'drug like addiction' to half life and its MODs in general
so im suffering big withdrawl symptoms and suddenly one day while walking down my school corridor i start making tha snarl/grunt noise gorges make as they walk around and ever since then when ever im in a good mood i make that noise without thinking about it and twich my fingers as if they were fade blades waiting to slice some marine patties...
damn my head is spinning right now.... *chuckels and curls up under desk waiting...*

Oh and once on holidays i chanced my friend down the beach like a fade. At first i made some evil like sounds (Alien type sounds can't explain it) He turned around and i said "What?" he turned back to the front and kepts walking i then did lik a Hiss and chanced him. For what reason? I have no idea all i heard from him while running was "Oh my f***ing god he is insane!" and when i stopped and we headed back to the group he said to my brother "Your brother is insane.."
i can always hear the footsteps of marines passing, always and everywhere, in my sleep, when i go shopping, when i talk with my gf, nweven when i'm driving da car. probaby caused by gorging to much and the risk of getting shot!!
I see gorges all the time, but that's because I burnt the image of one onto my eyeballs. I also make quack-quack noises, preferably to amusing music in the background.
I had a ns dream, i dream't that people could atchaly play the game and it was fun it wasn't n00b rape for once i got owned silly then i stoped tripping realized that no this cant be true. woke up 5 sec's later. lets hope that its more then a dream .. more like a premanishion i hope it becomes relaty i really do. mabie a 6 month + break will do my skill lvl's some seriouse dmg. at school, when i walk in/out of a classroom, i always check the part of the wall that's above the door for a skulk. ppl are all like "dude, what do you really expect to find there, a poster?" and i said once "an ailen actually." 3rd biggest mistake... now i jusr dont listen, i just go with it, plus im getting more aware, and i think i pay attention to more things (yar, dod kickin too) plus from dod, whenever i hear loud footsteps i want to duck and get my knife out. the furthest i get is ducking, i dont carry a knife for others safety sake.

I've had full blown NS dreams, as well as small bouts of NS in real life, such as:
Getting injured and asking for a medpack in my mind Seeing motion tracking blips when I hear someone down the hall Checking the skulk ambush points at every bulkhead/doorway Sidestrafing more often than turning and walking
