Lag Problem?

Does anyone get this? I will be playing fine until either my team attacks a base or my base is attacked, and then I will get all lagged out and my ping jumps wicked high, in the thousands. This only happened after I installed the 3.0 beta 3 patch. I have a brand new computer with excellent high speed cable connection so it can't be my computer or internets fault. Can someone help?

Try typing "rate 9999" in your console without the quotes. Should fix it, hopefully.

Well, I reinstalled Steam and lost my favourites list, and still it lags in huge fights. I also changed my rates including rate, cl_updaterate, and cl_cmdrate. Still lags...weird.

I've also had this problem with lag in big ns games. But whenever I change the "rate" command to something higher than it was before, it seems to take care of the problem for about 5 minutes. But I don't think anyone can say exactly what is causing this, especially if you've reinstalled steam and are still getting the problem. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

on the steam main window, click setting, then move over the tabs till you find a connection type or setting, and change it from 28.8 to t1 or something
thats what I did, and it fixed mine
