About the soon to come infusion of new blood

Play nice with the newbies.....
Ok. Yes this is my first post but I hope everyone is of the opinion that post count means nothing.. I've been lurking for a long while and am pretty excited about this mods release.

I've noticed a scary trend to these forums. People are all fearing new players comming to this game. The Newbies. I am just hoping that you will be nice to most of them. As with any new game, there are a lot of clueless people who really don't care to learn about the game. But I can PROMISE you that those will be vastly out numbered by good people who want to learn and generally not be lame.

Mostly they newbies that seem to be made the most fun of are the Counter-strike players. I'm a huge fan of Counter-Strike and have played it for a long time. The reason I am a fan of it is not the awesome DM goodness. Its the teamplay. And I am certainly not alone. You wonder why its so populiar? The teamplay aspect. Thats the whole reason why I joined a clan and such. I've stoped with the clan thing a long while back because I grew tired of the game though.

Anyway, I just wanted to say please be nice to the newbies. This condecending attitude will just make things tougher all around. Besides. The greatest concentration of lame players comes when a game becomes truly populiar. While NS is amazing looking, I don't think this will happen right upon release. Even when CS was first starting out it was a good tight nit community. As long as everyone stays civil, I see this happening with NS too.

On a sidenote, I find it very funny to hear non-PTs calling newcommers newbies. New to what? the forums? Upon release, everyone but the PTs will be on level ground.

Hopefully this was all coherant and everything. I just have high hopes for this mod and get tired of the whole newbie bashing thing.

Save the resentment for someone who proves to be a lamer, not for someone that has simply not played the game much. The community will be better for it.

    CS has very basic teamplay

    'Stick together team'

...thats basiclly it. and most of the players are too stupid to even do that. Most. Not All.

Man all these topics are just about newbies and what not now! There is no real discussion of the mod going on. The dev team should of only posted news when the code was actually gold not 'almost'. What if it doesn't come out in two weeks?? People will riot! (Well probably not) but yeah I think everyone should just calm down a bit and act like they were before they read that news.

In public games that is true.

Now if you played in a clan match thats a little different. It is all on team tactics and locking down certain parts of the map/guarding eachothers back. Very tense and enjoyable stuff.

I have played quite a good number of CS matches against some decent clans. I have also played a ton of TFC matches against really good clans. The teamplay/work aspect in CS is very minimal when compared to TFC and when compared to NS for that matter. But yes, there is some teamplay in CS.

Back on the subject. I don't mind new ppl coming to the boards and asking questions or whatever. But I DO mind ppl like myname123 or chapel who post on the forum with their purposeful posts to #### ppl off. i.e. "NS is going to be stupid, the aliens are not believable", "LETS NOT PLAY NS"...............

Actually, the sad part is, even they will download NS and play it. Only thing is, it's ppl like this that are the llamas of the community and do everything to #### ppl off in game.

'Newbie' isn't just a term restricted to those who are new to the forums or the mod in general, it's also an attitude that some people have and the way that they act on the forums and in the chat.

Welcome. Have a nice stay. While its true that some people view a high post count as meaning they are 'better' than others, the important people will not care as long as you are genrally a nice chappie.

I was clanned in a CS clan for ~8 months before I came to the NS community. It was certainly enjoyable at the time, but of course it all depends on skill and the attitude of the other players. Natural Selection makes you play as a team much more than CS ever did, but we shall see what happens with regards to player attitudes. All I can say is that after playing NS, CS no longer jiggles my figgles. 'Teamplay' in CS is completely structured around the maps, and nothing else. However, I am starting to rant on about this, so i shall stop. Soon I will be going "In my day.." and hitting people with canes!

Of course I agree. Everyone will be starting off on an equal footing, and they should remember it.

Welcome, welcome. Some valid point you bring up. And don't worry about the post count, knowing how I got mine I find them to be rather useless.

Clan servers and public servers are totally different no matter what game/mod your playing. I am a member of a DoD guild that has its own private servers where we only play with each other and no one else. some of the best fun ive ever had!

People will be nice to new forumgoers. Trust me. You don't want to be a jerk around the PR guy who's trying to find as many fans as possible for this mod, and we've spent a lot of effort making sure the forums are not some major Troll, Flame, FUD-fest...

these boards are alright, their redeeming quality lies in the fact the mod is awesome and the devs parcipitate in the discussion. Other then that i find these boards very repressive
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
OK, you have obviously never been repressed. I need this entire generation behind mine to go join the Armed Forces, and learn a bit about losing some individual freedoms for the good of the organization. Then you can talk about these things with a tiny shred of experience.

But if you mean we don't let you swear, flame, FUD, troll, and generally be the little monsters your parents have raised you as (or let TV raise you as), then call me Adolf Hitler...

Well said, DrBox. It takes a mature person to calmly explain their point of view about something they feel very stronly about.

The best way to get people interested in the game and playing it "properly" is to educate them. If we bash them because they become commander without realizing it, remember that they are regular people with feelings, and that they could use some help.

Yeah I agree with the main idea of this post. Hell, I have been playing CS for a while now, and I still suck But I also agree with the fact that there might be a small group of people who don't really apreciate NS and try to bring people down. It's not too hard to distinguish out of the two, but if you talked to em a bit, get em to learn the basics, NS has an even brighter future.
