Cruving the Ball...
Ok, I'm going on my last P.E trip to the Bowling Alley tomorrow and I want to get down how to curve the ball. The people that do it there don't even give good advice, they just say "I just do it, I can't really explain it." Someone said when you hold the ball at your side, you bend your hand to the side with the fingers in the ball then throw it down the alley like that, but that just hurts my wrist. If anyone is a good bowler, can please explain this "Curve Ball" method to me. Thx.

It takes years of practise to do it properly so don't be sad if you don't get it right the first time.
the first one is back hand bowling, thats where you do the complete follow thru only when you release the ball your wrist flicks slightly and your fingers also do sortof like a quick pause on the release then keep following through.. this only causes a slight curve it more or less causes the ball to look like its rolling backwards at the start and then start spinning forwards
the other is Hook bowling, which is where its the complete follow thru only you produce more force into throwing the ball and you flick your fingers towards yourself while the ball has rolled off your fingertips thats when you start to flick your fingers in.. i seriously recommend you dont do this because it is actually only done with ppl who have been bowling a logn time and have had prob bowlers train them...
the fact your freiedns may be curvign the ball is because they are forcing it to curve or they are back hand bowling without knowing,,, force curving isnt much of skill and usually dont get you nowhere other than misses.. no strikes..
i know i been bowling for 7 yrs, done double hand, back hand and hook bowling.. so its all mostly skill.. a true hook and back hand bowler knows where to stand, how to throw with each pin they aim for.. no matter if its even the 7 or 10 pin. even if its a split they can actually amazingly spare it if they know how to throw the ball so it goes to the end of the gutter and jumps out and hits the pin to the other .. ive only done it a few times it is really hard to get the right amount of power and spin into the ball... the only reason it spins more depends ont he speed and power you put into it through the follow through..
i dont expect youll know anything i said then =p but meh.. jsut so ya know. it does take a while to learn how to bowl properly if you want to learn hook bowling etc , i suggest do straight bowling or back hand first.. thats how i started.. tho backhand bowling sorta came naturally with me.. i only learnt to hook bowl because i got a pro bowler to teach me.
curve ball is just liek what guy above sed, and they usually give ya misses more then strikes

Thnx for the advice. I'm pretty decent at bowling. I usually score above 150. But my friend Daniel just learned how to hook the ball and he gets pretty good scores. Oh well, I can try tomorrow or be serious and get a 200 . Thnx again for the tips.
you geting these scores with bumpers on? or u using light bowling balls or what?
hehe ^^ either way
i should note that while i was bowling as a hook bowler,, i did have to wear a steel plated wrist guard.. because of the pressure and recoil i put into the ball sometimes flicked my wrist too far back when i swung the ball back, and sometimes did it on release of the ball.. so it pretty much hurt like all buggery if i didnt wear wrist band.. so yeah
oh yeh..
i forgot to tell ya that for a proper Hook bowler, the bowling ball is actually drilled a specific way,, see the normal bowling ball you can fit all your fingers in, but the hook bowling ball is differnt.
with hook bowlers the bowling ball finger/thumb holes are drilled differently its called fingertip drilled,, the tumb hole is the same, but the finger holes are drilled sooo far from the thumb hole that your hand stretches so only your finger tips fit into it.. now it sounds hard (beleive me you do have to hold it a bit more) but this really really helps to spin the ball. thus why some bowlers you see get a huge spin in their ball. the only prob you get is you need baby poweder so your thumb dont stick, otherwise THWOCK!!! and BANG!!! then ARGH!!! .. lol.. painful it is...
1- straght bowling
2- flick bowling (straight bowlers give a slight finger flick adds to the unexcpected finishing curve)
3- back hand (curve) bowling
4- hook bowling
look at where the ball starts and hen where it ends youll see the diference of positions they take on the lane to get the ball in between the 1-2 or the 1-3 pins..
hint: hitting between the 1-2 and 1-3 pins give you a 90% more chance of gettign strikes if you didnt know.. hitting the 1 pin straight on gives you 88% more of a chance of getting splits.
its hard to describe but ive gotten a lot of crazy spins where everybody thought it was gonna be a gutterball.

^^
on a random note I used to work at a bowling alley
wrong lol, Its all in the hips, its all in the hips, its all in the hips, just tryin to ease the tension baby. "well go ease it on someone else" =P
Im pretty much a hook player. Even more hook then the pictures you have shown.
But if you want a good hook all you have to remember is to play it out right and remove your thumb out of the thumb hole just when you are about to release the ball. Then you use your two other fingers to spin the ball.
You dont need to use baby powder all the time.
Then you should probably look over your holes.
Since you have played for some years your thumb should have adapted to bowling (hardened skin and so on). And if it gets stuck everytime so that you need to use powder you really have to redo the thumb hole.
