Rofl. I think I actually did this once back in the 1.02 days. Nothing like having an NSPlayer(3) commander who wins the game with nothing but waypoints.
SuperTeflon, thru is a word.
Internet shorthand usage is culturally acceptable. It's not formal or proper, but it's not an immediate indication of stupidity, either.
Some people simply don't want to or can't take the time to type it out in full. It's not really a big deal unless you want to pick a fight.
'sides, your grammar isn't perfect, though you may like to think it is. (trust me, if an English major got on your case, you'd see you make countless errors you didn't even know about.)

Besides, thru isn't a word, it's slang. It's perfectly acceptable in IRC or in-game where the messages come real fast and you don't have time to type with perfect grammar and spelling, but on a forum you have all the time in the world, and should type accordingly. That way it's more polite, easier to read, and makes people actually want to READ your posts... rather than skip through the large chunks of text because they're so badly set up.
SuperTeflon's signature is a quote taken from NemesisZero. In case you were wondering, the person NemesisZero was complaining about there used "daza" as shorthand for "that's a". I don't see any problem with people using "u" or "thru", except when they have a long post (more than two full paragraphs) or their post is commenting on someone else's grammar/spelling.
thru, while still not formally accepted in documents at the professional level has actually been added to the official Academic Lexicon for American Language much like the words "metrosexual" and "Kudder" (in replacement of the formal name of Qatar, a middle-eastern nation-state).
Personally I hate most slang as it means that I have to constantly learn new terminology just to find out that I could care less. While I can't escape this in any country I go to, the extent to which the US has become socially and culturally diverse really exaggerates the trends. If only everyone simply changed their nationality to Martian and spoke the universal formal language of Pig-Latin... the world would be such a nicer place.
When Nemesis Zero wrote that, he was apparently very annoyed at the extensive use that a particular user made of slang. It wasn't necessarily meant in general, it was directed at a specific user, or at least that's what I got out of Zero's reply when I asked him.

If that is, in fact, what you were referring to.

It's all in the Netiquette.
Usually though, most of the NS noobs are something like [3y3p\/\/|\|z j00]ButtFreakNutSmeller....

Anyway, whether by Zero or Teflon, it's a dumb post. You don't always have "all the time" in the world to write a post on a forum, either.
Main reason the sig irks me is that it's a post intended to inform when it's, in itself, uninformed. It's somewhat hypocritical.
