oh God help me
I used to hate this game so much and now I can't stop playing. I've gotten the expansion pack and now that all the things I couldn't stand are out of the way like the low resolution the loneliness of it (I got friends to play with now) I play it all the time. But it still doesn't make sense. I used to get mad at people for liking this game because it's so mindless and now I love it.

I have a level 43 Barbarian, Paladin level 28, Assassin level 26, Necromancer level 18, Druid level 16, and Amazon level 6.

Share your experiences with it here. Maybe I can play with some of you guys.

Them kind of games seem to bore me after a while

it all seems like the only objective is to get a l33t level and just go around bashing monsters O_o

It basically is. The part that is really draws you in is building up your character in different ways with skills and getting different mixes of itemst. I believe my understanding of that and playing it with friends has hooked me to it.

Leave Diablo2 alone now or be forever addicted.

D2 is one of those games you play for months, get bored, then a year or so later you take it up again and get addicted once more. I recently finished my latest D2 phase (brought on by patch 1.10, I LOVE my zookeeper necro ). Really the only way to get through it is to work it our of your system by playing; going cold turkey will just make you delusional. When I tried that I was woken up by my phone ringing but I didn't want to answer it because it was giving me +30% cold resist, and I really needed that resistance.

I stopped playing D2 2 weeks after the widespread 1.09 duping began. I STARTED playing during v 1.03, before the expansion.

When I stopped playing, I had amassed at least one of every item in the game except for the grandfather, and 1 or more lvl 99 hardcore character of each class.

When the duping made the game retarded, I sold my accounts for a measly $76 on ebay and tossed my d2 cds at an old friend of mine.

When the 1.10 patch went live, I picked up the D2 box set at wal mart, thinking it might be a little better now.

2 weeks later, with a HC character in the upper 80s, and not much luck in finding anything due to not having any friends to play with this time around, I realized this game is nothing more than a deathtrap.

    DO NOT PLAY DIABLO2!

If anybody wants my account, PM me. The account may not be there anymore due to expiration, but hell. There's a shaftstop on it somewhere. And this all depends on whether or not I remember my password.

Well, you're not alone, I used to hate Diablo 2 too, until i discovered how much fun it was to play on battle.net, with other people.
I love doing unusual chars that aren't much played, so much more fun than the standard cookie-cutter kill em' all-builds.
If someone wants to play with me, I play on Us East and sometimes on the Europe realm with the nick ZupiCo on both.

Diablo II does get old. But its one of those games where I come back to it a few months out of every year. My new character is a Lvl79 Necro Zookeeper on USEast.

I'm remember my 1 month binge of D2, staying up every night to 5am, because I had become sure that mfing was better in the morning XD. I must have killed mephisto upwards of 200 times, I memerized how to get to his dungeon from any possible setup of the level of his dungeon just above it.right, up, right, up etc).... *shudders* Then I just stopped playing when the new patch didn't come out and started playing half life, go figure....

I played it for a few months before PSO shook my world. I could never go back, just the thought of D2's lifeless environments and incessant clicking makes me all queasy. I understand that people are drawn to the addiction of levelling up, but wouldn't it be more fun in a vibrant game world? And one with, you know, less clicking?

    No.

But wouldn't it be a more fun world if everyone could level up?

You'd be studying, and you'd hear a voice in your head that says "You're studying skill has just increased by 1 point!"

Or when you eat breakfast, it'd say "You are full and cannot eat anymore." after enough bites.

And oh.. you'd be able to fit ANYTHING in a backpack.

I never really got into diablo 2 but some years ago I played the first one all the time.

Btw. your stories reminds me of me and counter-strike. I've played since beta 1 but when 1.0 was released I began to hate it. Now when I can use steam to play ns I also play cs very often.

    I'm in the same boat as flint... diablo seemed fun and stuff then PSO took over my life like a crack cocaine addiction ^^;

After PSO Diablo and Diablo 2 just felt dull... it's like all the colours had been turned down. Never, ever play PSO, it'll ruin your gaming life forever because it gives you a taste of games gone right; but only a taste

I've also started playing it again

I only ever played necromancers. Well, one necromancer - a level 67 summoner with too many points in bad skills. At the moment, I've got a barbarian, a paladin, an assassin, and a melee necromancer (which I call a "dark paladin").

And I still have yet to reach Hell with any of my characters, ever .

By the way, if you play a lot of Open Diablo2, I highly recommend ATMA. It allows you to move items between characters, and store items in "stash" files (which can be any size. So finally you gem and rune hoarders don't have to worry about running out of stash space )

I actually traded in my D2 and XP discs to EB to stop myself. Never really played hardcore, but I kept going back to it and then getting bored, so I figured I'd just end the cycle and as a plus, get some money back out of it.

I know how you feel with the addiction though, I'm an EverCrack-fiend. Recently relapsed too, and the by-product is a twinked Bard who got bored in about 25 levels... I'll be back and I know it.

You know what I find so strange? Diablo 2 is so addictive (lewt addiction is powerful stuff ), but when Blizzard finally decide to make a MMORPG they make a Warcraft one. I mean... hypothetically speaking, if Diablo 2, exactly as it is, were a MMORPG in the first place they'd have been raking in money for years now. Even more so than they currently are. Not that I'm suggesting they should charge for Battle.net, of course.
