Well...yeah. NS 3.0 is fairly new, so it's going to attract new people who come to check it out.

    ...

Not just in 3.0. The 2.0 server I regular on has become infested with them. I dont mind new players so much, as long as theyre willing to learn. Im tired of idiots saying things like "HOW DO I R TEH GET TEH NU GUNS!?!" and "THIS IS NOTHING LIKE COUNTER STRIKE". Seriously, there is a manual - read it.

The manual is still in beta form, and is never linked during the instal. You literally have to search for it.

Yes, but I wasnt a flaming idiot. I read the manual, practiced by myself in LAN games, and had a pretty reasonable idea of how the game worked when I first played on a pub.

But whatever, this topic is going to be locked anyway.

You consider new players a problem? People who don't read the manual and scream for HMG's 45 seconds into the game are annoying, but it's better then seeing your favorite mod die a slow death.

A noob who thinks someone hacking: "Why can't i kill that fade and why is he moving so fast!!!!!, HES SPEED HACKING!" "OMG How Did that marine see me hiding while i was under the stairs, he uses WALLL HAX BAN HIM!" "HOW DID 3 Marines KILL ME A FADE!!!! ...This game is too hacky im going to sew ns unless they fix it so u cant use hacks and ban all hackers!" (Thinks, Even Diablo 1 had less hacks then this game. IM GOING BACK TO CS THE BEST ANTI NUB GAME EVER"

Personally, I've had this problem a lot more in 3.0 than 2.0. Not about new players (I kinda get a warm feeling when someone says "I'm new, what do I do with resources as an alien") but about people who don't understand what NS is.

I thought a lot of people would hear about a game, go to its site and check the FAQ and manual, then if it seemed interesting, DL it. Apparently, a lot are downloading this thinking it's AvP or something, and are disappointed when they see what the game is about (they were looking for something simpler, maybe).

This in itself still isn't bad, it's people who have no desire to learn the game, or care about their team. People that wanna find a way to kill things fast and are upset when NS isn't "that type of game." These are the "n00bs" that bother me the most. I still blame this on the publicity of co and marketing to the lowest 50% of the gaming population purposefully. (Feel free to argue this, I'd prefer to be wrong here!)

The best way to deal with this is to discourage "smacktards" from playing, while being helpful and friendly to most other new players who honestly want to see what NS is. "RTFM" to someone that asks why he can't buy cloaking when you don't have sense is a bad way to welcome new players. A quick explantation isn't asking a lot really. Everyone has to learn somewhere.

In short, being standoffish and rude to idiotic players is a good thing, but being elitest to people who are just new or not very good yet is horrible for this community. Knowing the difference is the important part.

Calling "noobs" a "problem" is the attitude that helps give this game such a small population, and will make it die a lonely death.
  • Salvation_r2Salvation_r2 Join Date: 2003-11-26 Member: 23606Members
there is nothing wrong with a nub

    there is to a extent

you can only gather and understand so much for the guild(witch people don't read)

so, theres a huge differace between someone reading the guild, asking for help, and someone who just downloaded it, came off cs, and ask WTH to do

Yes, because CS is one giant idiot magnet that occasionaly sends a "CS NUB" flying off to another mod.

Seriously, honestly, realistically, how often do you actually see people talk like this - when they're not kidding? If someone doesn't know what an armory is, how would they know what a prototype lab is?

I've never seen people use extra exclamation marks ingame either, it's a waste of time. In fact, the only noobish thing I see people do is play with their mics in retarded ways that become annoying very fast.

Most newbies are just obsessed with pestering people about how the game works, usually "How do I get a new gun?" or the occasional "I need new gun." Sometimes they use the 'u' for you and '4' for for, but typing I can understand that. Rarely is there someone that annoying that they actually ruin a game.

There are the occasional people who are terrible at the game, or the first time commander not practicing...but you can eject him, and you can fight your best on the noob team (granted: it is frustrating going up against an onos with an lmg because none of your team can capture res).

[OT] Please don't pronounce noob or newbie 'nub', a nub is a small pertrusion or knob like egress. Nub does not pronouce like noob if you have a basic grasp of phonics and phonetics. I lose a little respect for someone everytime they say nub instead of noob (they take the same speed to type, so don't give me any of that efficiency stuff either).

Only noobs say nub inplace of noob .

Well, like me and Align were discussing. Newbie, is a respectable new person, someone with brains and respect for other players. Now, on the other hand we have a noob, nub, nublet, etc. These guys are complete morons who do nothing but attack other players, and express their feelings like complete jack****.

Newbies is what made all great games, noobs is what is giving some a bad name.

What's much worse are those who think they know how to play. For example, the guy goes comm and build 18 (EIGHTEEN!) turrets at nanogrid along with 4 (FOUR) elec'ed tf's there, and with easily 10 turrets at pipeline and also a dozen at marine start.

And the most pathetic part about it is we had actually gotten the time to do all that on 4 RT's.

Mic spam is also annoying, especially among the younger ones. It's not because they're young, it's their earscreeching voices (I'm young too mind you, only I use the mic sparingly and don't have a 9 year old voice)
