I like Steam. All you people are complaining for nothing. I'm glad I have steam, otherwise I'd have to buy another copy of Half-Life.. again.

The entire concept of Steam is one of the greatest things ever. Everything has to be built up some how, they are still working on it.

That petition is bs and signing it wont make a bit of difference, just like any petition on that horrid site.

"The policy of completely ignoring the issue of NAT based connections which has been continued over the past 4 months has gone too far and needs addressing as soon as possible."

Myself and two of my friends all run networks with multiple people behind NAT routers. We have never encountered a problem with this setup and STEAM.

"Other mayor issues such as client instability and automatic startup without possibility of choice have to be addressed."

Can't even spell right and there is an option in steam that toggles the automatic startup of steam upon entering windows.

completely worthless petition

My only quarrel with steam stems from the fact that at this time an internet connection is required to play even the single player game.

As a way of handling multiplayer, steam is okay. But it won't get my vote of approval until Valve fulfills their promise of fixing the "internet connection" requirement.

Steam is an amazing concept that needed a huge test bed, now this testing phase is more of less over (mainly friends bugs to fix) and a few things with general network uptime (been very good since christmas but needs to be even better I mean won going down was almost unheard of)

and atlast most people have accpetted that its here to stay.

You'd think he would have been back to argue his point. I guess he doesn't plan on being around much, and just wanted to get that out to a large audience.

Seriously dude, there is no problem with Steam that a smart end product user cannot fix himself. This does wonders.

People complaining about Steam, have only themself to blame.
I've been using Steam since the day it was released (non-beta), and I like it alot.
Once Valve make Steam work offline for LAN-gaming, it's perfect.

Steam is a very good idea but I don't quite think it's going to pan out to be the best that Valve could make it. I really enjoy not having to ever have any CDs anymore, very very enjoy. But facing facts, Steam is not completely stable. There are many problems and with such a large user base, seeing as nearly all HL mods are running on Steam now, it should be a much more dynamic program. There are many of the features that were said to be included in Steam, ie offline games, buying game key's online (no packaging), the Official Counter Strike Bot, all of which have seemed to have vanished. So in short I use Steam yes, but alot of work needs to be done, none of which Valve appears to be doing.

This is my first post in like...forever...and the first thing I see is this. If you aren't going to read the rest of my post, just know that I pretty much agree with CForrester. I agree that Steam is buggy and hopefully that will change because even though I can get it to work without too much effort, I shouldn't have to make any effort at all to fix their mistakes. That and Steam needs a decent computer to run, it's way too slow on mine, which is admittedly crappy, but the only reason Half-Life has such a large player base is because everyone can play it.

Anyway, despite all of these glaring flaws, I'm still going to side with everyone else on this one. I might have decided differently if I hadn't been approached by dozens of morons like you. No one listens to petitions, and no one here will take kindly to having an idiot like you sign up just to make your first and only post complaining about Steam like countless others have before you. Please just quit whining, Steam isn't that hard to live with, and frankly... your opinion doesn't matter.

Steam is fine - few bugs, but so? All new stuff has bugs...

Only problem with steam is that it can be used for cheaing via the friends network (not so much with NS, but with other mods).

People who can't connect are complaining, so those who can't connect should just sign. Steam is fine, it sure give's Half-Life graphics a good beefing which it needed. The only rant about Steam is long loadtimes, even on a 1.8GHZ 512MB PC.

Unlike most of the previous posters, I do not like of Steam. There is two reasons:

1) The security to verify your product key is too strict. A year back, I gave a chance to Steam. Didn't like it, so I threw it to recycle bin and deleted -happily playing on WON. Then Steam came mandatory. And my previous "try" was still in the database -which I had forgotten completely.

Lucky me that I remembered it after a while, since Valve, no, Valve would not give any kind of support in this matter -that much they have made clear in their forum. Hopefully someone hacks their network again and deletes their whole database.

2) Steam does not ask anything -it access web, downloads, and installs stuff, all without the users consent. Reminds me of spyware. A simple "Yes/No" question would had been enough, but apparently Valve doesn't think the users opinion matters.
---
If Valve would bother to give some customer service like they should, and ASK before installing stuff to my computer, Steam could be quite good. However, until they actually do something about these matters, I think that Steam should not be mandatory.

I don't think you people realize what he meant by "NAT based connections". This is NOT talking about connecting to an internet server from BEHIND A NAT. Of course that works. I'm doing it at the moment, and I use Steam without a problem.

The problem is if you connect from WITHIN a NAT to a server WITHIN the same NAT. The problem is that the auth cookie obtained from Steam auth server has an internet IP address stamped on it, and the local server will reject it because it sees your local IP, not the public one (I think the issue is more complicated than that but that is the general gist of it). Search the Steam forums for more info.

That said, Valve is already working on it, so I think this petition is pretty BS too.

Not the place to pimp an anti-Steam petition. Steam forums, maybe. But Natural Selection is *not* Steam.

*LOCKED.*

(As a note, I run a NAT and have had zero problems with Steam)
