<div class="IPBDescription">mouse, keyboard...plz help</div> Ive never had any real problems before with NS until 3.0 came out

This IS NOT a steam bash... steam is cool, but i have a problem with it, so i want to know how to fix it is ALL..... so dont freakin explode on me or turn this into a Pro/Non steam FLAME WAR please....

Anyways.... my problem:

My ping can be 33, choke 0, and FPS at 80+ all the time... however my aim will lag 1/2 to a full second behind my keyboard/mouse movements.... no matter what
In additon, frequently the FPS o meter (cl_showfps 1) will SAY 80 fps.. when i know darn well im jumping all over at like 1.5-2 FPS... its rediculous...

Changing video modes, options, resolution, or keyboard keys has no effect on this.

Also someone suggested me to try GL_ztrick 1 which has no effect either...

I have never had this problem in any game before and that is the only way i can describt it, i move the mouse up, 1/2-1 second later the crosshair moves up....

ITS ****...

Also.. VSYNC is off.... and Gfx card is set for MAX performance(not quality)
plz help

~Jason

Please post your specs. Also, look at the steam tech support forum, since this seems to be a steam problem, not a ns problem.

Do you happen to have a Microsoft Keyboard or Microsoft Mouse?

If so and if you are running Windows 2000 or XP try this:

At your desktop hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on the Processes Tab. You are looking for type32.exe (if you have a Microsoft Keyboard) or point32.exe (if you have a Microsoft Mouse). Right click on whichever process you have, and in the menu that pops up select "Set Priority" and change it from Normal to High. A dialog box will pop up asking you to confirm this change, tell it Yes.

If you have both type32.exe and point32.exe make sure you change the priority for both. If this solves your problem then be aware that everytime you start your computer (or if you have multiple user accounts on the computer, evertime you log on) you will need to follow these steps.

lol i had the SAME exact problem. but my problem came way before i even installed ns. also, my problem was in won. once i converted from won to steam...it stopped. i dont know if it cured it from switching from won to steam, but i don't have it anymore with steam. so, maybe try to reinstall steam or something.

adjust the refresh of the mouse in windows and in the logitech setup thing. only way to fis is to experiment with settings with both. also turn up/down the mouse accel that logitech options have in mouseware.

    Other possible things:
Make sure you kill all external programs.

Run a virus scan and a program like adaware (google housecall for free virus scan and adaware for free spyware killer)

Upgrade your ram. You should have atleast 512MB.

    not for half life honestly.

    Also upgrading to 512 is not exactly POSSIBLE for every one <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I mean, if oyu can get 512+ go for it (it will help you ouT), but I doubt that this will solve your problem.

I got this everytime Norton started a scan or I forgot to switch iMesh off before playing. Make sure you've got nothing running in the background, and if you're using a shared connection someone downloading a lot of stuff can cause your connection to lag.

Was searching for a fix to my problem and come across this post. I don't know if its still relevant, but to fix the aim lag I had to run dxdiag.

    Start -> run -> dxdiag

In the sound section turn off all hardware acceleration. That fixed it for me.

when u first start up steam set it to run in "low priority" using task manager. #That should fix ur mouse lag.

You may also try disabling EAX/A3D sound.

    lol
    Lots of different ideas.
If you still have the problem, here's my thoughts.

You're ping is fine, so it must be a client side problem. I'd agree with the RAM comment acutally, but not to that amount. Performance increases 512meg + are limited, and generally only with large games with detailed textures and large maps.
However, upgrading to 256meg is ESSENTIAL. It really is not possible to use winxp to any degree of senibility without 256meg of ram. Nothing works quickly.

There's lag between keyboard and mouse reactions. OK, so most likely processor useage is high. Admitedly fiddling with process priority would fix this, but it just means that the problem-program has less processor power at its disposal.
At this point I would think a virus or adware infection is likely. To save typing, Comprox made a brilliant and
    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25354' target='_blank'>well-linked post</a> in the Off topic forum.

Virus infections are a different matter. Make sure your virus scanner updates at least daily, and check its scan-engine too. (If applicable). There are known viruses that target more popular brands such as Norton, (well, only norton really,) so I would recommend against them if you have not already purchased a scanner.
If cash is tight, you can download some a/v scanners for free. I seem to remember Fprot, Panda, and AVG have / had free versions available for download.

However, if you are already infected with a virus, then downloading and installing a scanner will be of little use, as the virus is likely to infect one or more of the a/v scanner's EXEs. Fire off the three-finger-salute and close the virus from there. If you don't know the name, look in the reg run keys (or use start, run, "sysconfig",) for an entry with a short amibuous name, (eg, "Sysmon", "Win32" , "MSShell") with no path entry. (ie, "Win32.exe" as apposed to "C:\Program Files\Mousedriver\Win32.exe" etc)

    HTH.

dunno if it's been said...but if this is a wireless keyboard/mouse, id sugest you make sure all electronic interference is kept away from them. things such as microwaves, radions, mobiles phones, and other such things generate interference....even your own computer will do so....make sure your periferals are at least 12 inch's away from your monitor and box.
