Errrr
Well, I haven’t posted in a while, but after spending the last hour or so reading all these stories, the excitement just got the better of me. Then it got me thinking, and a few questions arose.

1st, are the play tests conducted with friendly fire on? Because I can just see a lvl 1 jumping straight into the centre of a squad of nervous marines, then pouncing off snickering, as the marines unload their clips into each other.

2nd, what is being implemented to stop cheaters?
The main reason I don't play games online is because of cheats. I would hate for my first official NS experience to be ruined by a bunch of idiots with wall hacks.

3rd, this is not really a Question, but I thought it still needed to be said:
Congratulations and a very heart felt thankyou, to everyone involved in making this mod, to all the mappers (especially Merkaba and ken20banks), the artists and the rest of the dev team, as well as the hard working Monse and all the loyal play testers.
NONE of this could have happened without the ongoing support and dedication that that you guys (and girls?) have shown.
And lastly, to Flayra. A man with what seemed like an impossible dream. A man who has, with the help of the above mentioned people, created more than just a game, he has created an experience like no other. I hope to be playing NS for many years to come. All I can say is thankyou for not giving up, and not letting obstacles stand in your way, and showing a 19-year-old guy that you can accomplish what you dream.

FF is not on in NS. The reason of this is that it's more of a action than realistic focused gameplay, lack of FF in RTSs, along other things. There might be a toggle to turn it on and off however.

Cheating usually takes time for it to pick up so you don't have to worry much. I also believe some of valve's anti-cheat stuff will be included (however this is wholy outside my knowledge here).

I'm not sure but I think your signature might be a tad too big, just thought I'd tell you..

As for the answers, I could probably come up with them, but they wouldn't be nearly as good as what a PT or Dev could tell ya.

I believe Bill is correct, it's something like 400x75

It's not as if they shoot around friendly troops, it's that they aren't the given target so that isn't what they hit/miss. I'm fairly sure any vector projectiles in most RTSs are implemented as such purely for graphical reasons and determining if there is something blocking the line of sight and has no bearing on where the damage is dealt other than not allowing fire in the first place. Can someone say runnnnnn-on?

1 - Friendly fire is off normally. It can be turned on by putting the server in "tournament mode", but most servers will be running "casual mode". While players can't hurt each other with projectiles in casual mode, as a general rules, a player's own projectiles can hurt himself. Ie, if I shoot a grenade at my own feet, I'll take damage when it goes off. If I shoot an acid rocket into the wall next to me, I'll take damage.

2 - We're not ready to announce anything in the anti-cheat department but it's an important issue to us.

    3 - Thanks a lot. :)

Yo, quick question. It's been mentioned a few times that FF is off normally, but on in tournament mode.

So... what else is different about tournament mode?

I would say tournament mode is for clan matches. That's why FF would be on.

the 2 key things I remember about turny mode is that FF is on and no team switching (thus clan matches)
there may be more that I don't know

BTW, has FF been tested out in NS? (I remember some ideas trhat ppl came up with that could be very bad for FF)

Friendly fire is off by default, because tournament mode is off by default. There is no option for friendly fire per se, only an option for tournament mode.

VALVe's anti-cheat (VAC) will probably be coming in the future, but we're not sure yet.
