    Ive never fancied a tatoo.
    Just the thought, that in 20 years you regret it.

    when you get old, it will de-shape, hanging loosely around your flabby old body <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I think they are a bit tacky these days.

    But its all personal taste.

    I'm getting a Pac-Man tattoo on my right upper arm. And if I'm crazy/stupid enough, the Imperial Aquila icon from 40k on either my back or my left upperarm.

    I reeeeeaaaaaaaly want an inverted rood, a-la Vagrant story on my upper arm..
    course I would like to design it myself, rather than go for the actual one used in the game, for a little originality.
    I just love 'that style' of old skool european 'architechture' (from churchs etc...) and the inverted rood implies darkness without being specifically blasphemous.

    perhaps for my 22nd, when ive built my arm up some more (would hate for it to distort later).

    Penny Arcade Fan Boi <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> (j/k)

    I wanted to have a tattoo, and i found the perfect one (it looked kick-****). It was one of "The Undetaker"s tattoos (i know.... wrestling. Leave me alone <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->). But i lost the picture.

    Thinking about it though, i'm pretty fat as i am, so chances are i'm gonna lose weight over time, and this thing was detailed (and quite large) so it'd look crap.

    If anyone ever saw it, it was like a black and white person with a big cape, leaning his chin on a huge sword. Looked pretty damn good.

    this is the design the game used, Ive drawn it quite a few times and the one I would like is basically the same with a few variations.
    Also this one has some red in it, id rather it be just blackwork.

    Just be absolutely sure this is something you want on you even when you're 50, 60, 100... No doubts. If there's even an inkling of doubt when you see yourself in old age with that tattoo, DON'T GET IT.

    That said.

    This is around my right thigh:
    <img src='http://blademaiden.net/photos/stat1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
    <img src='http://blademaiden.net/photos/stat2.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
    <img src='http://blademaiden.net/photos/stat3.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    I also have a smaller tattoo on my right shoulderblade of a Chinese character, but I don't have any good pictures and I plan on having it covered by a purple butterfly later anyway. All my tattoos have very personal meanings for me, so I don't find them tacky at all.. tacky is walking into a parlor and getting inked just because it's cool, or you think it makes you more of an adult, or whatever.

    2of12: That it does. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> My snake took about 7 1/2 or 8 hours, which I did in two sessions. It's a very unique sensation...

    I got a infinity symbol w/ a celtic knot around it on my upper back. I came up with the idea, and an awesome tattoo artist in Albuquerque that I know made the design for me. Perhaps I'll post a pic of it when I gets home.

    I've got one, and I'm planning on a second as soon as I have the $$ on hand. Here's the first one, which is in the middle of my shoulderblades (actual size is a little over 2" wide).

    I've always considered getting one... in fact Athena's looks a lot like the idea I had... anyone remember Ultima 7: The Serpent Isle? and the chaos and order serpents, and the great earth serpent of balance? I was thinking a red serpent coiled around my right arm, symmetrical blue around my left, and a brown one on my back...

    just an idea though. maybe when I have a spare $2,000 or whatever it would cost =P

    Here's the design I'm planning on getting next, on my left inside wrist.

    My advice to you if you're thinking about getting a tattoo:

    1) shop around. Find the best tattoo place within a radius you're willing to drive to (I got mine done in one of the best shops in Connecticut, and drove my friend 3 hours to have hers done at the same place). Ask people you know with tattoos where they got them and how it went.

    2) decide on a design and SIT ON IT. If you haven't changed your mind or the design 6 months later, it's probably a keeper. I sat on both of my designs for about 2 years.

    3) Keep the future in mind in terms of placement. If you're planning on getting some kind of 9-5 suit-wearing business job, you might not want to get a pair of dragons tattooed above your eyebrows. If you're a woman, the butterfly you get on your breast turns into a pterodactyl by the time you're 50, and the mermaid you get on your stomach turns into a whale if you get pregnant (just examples).

    Anyway, here's my 2nd tattoo-to-be.

    If don't really like Tattoo's, but if I were to ever get one I'd have to be the Triforce. I drew the Eye on the front of Sheik's outfit on my hand with some markers though:

    (I think it'd be a good as a tattoo too, but then agian, I'm a nerd.)

    a good motto to live by with tatoos.

    'cheap tatoos are not good.'
    'good tatoos are not cheap'

    that is all

    Well i've been stewing over tattoos for several years now, and finally i'm actually going to get some done. I have a number of drawings i've done that i've loved. They're all 2-3 years old and i'm still as happy with them today as i was then. It's just the cost, i know each one is hours upon hours of work, purely because of how complex they are.

    My first ones are going to be relatively simple, i have the money already, i know where i'm getting them done, and all i need do is book an appointment.

    It's kinda lame, but it's something i want, i'm getting my initials on the insides of my wrists, one on each wrist (i have no middle name). At present i'm only getting the outlines done, but i'm yet to decide if i want the insides filled black, or with my family's tartan, which is a blue / black colour.

    The initials will be in a gothic style font, both capitals. I have the exact font in mind, all i need do is find an example, and the tattoo artist said he'll do the rest. I've already drawn them on my wrists to see how they look, and i am happy with it entirely. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Though you might think it as a joke, the Red vs. Blue Public Service Announcement about tattoos is pretty sage advice...
  • torquetorque Join Date: 2003-08-20 Member: 20035Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    It's not just a matter of the tattoo.. decide absolutely what, where, how large, etc. and then you need to find a reputable tattooing parlor. There, you want to make sure they follow health regulations, AND you want to make sure that the tattooist will be able to replicate your image properly. Almost all tattooists will keep a photo album of their work, which you should leaf through and check the quality of their work. Have them replicate the image on paper if need be.

    My tattooist and I did the design in pen ink once or twice (on my actual thigh), revising some lines, before we actually started needling. I've seen too many people get tattoos that were poorly done, smeared, or just badly drawn on... You also want to learn how to take care of it ahead of time.

    I think for a well-reputed tattooist in a good parlor, the average price is something like $100/hour? I'm not sure... it seems to jump around a lot. It also depends on your relationship with the tattooist; mine realized that I was very serious about the subject and we got along fabulously, so he dropped his initial asking price when it came time to cough up the money. A word of advice; Don't Haggle.

    I actually plan on a tattoo to cover my back, though I've yet to decide on the subject matter (as if I'd even be able to afford it!)... we'll see if I ever get to such a thing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    That's it right there! If you don't like an idea after 2 years, you're going to really regret it in 30. It's sorta like engagement before marriage.

    what? No "get a tattoo of your favorite webcartoon"?

    On a lighter note, my build makes tattoos look very silly, so I doubt I'll get one.
