Can someone please explain exactly how it was abused? I ask because the preservation of experience was the single feature that allowed me, with my 56K and constant lag outs, to play Combat properly as is possible. Now every time I lag out, I have to go back to level 1, which quite frankly sucks.

Now before you all start saying things along the lines of 'get a better connection' and the like, just don't. If I could, I would, but that isn't the issue here. How was the preservation of experience being abused? Please help me to comprehend this change, such that it can ease my pain a little...

    Before you die, f4, return to game. Before you die, f4 and return to game. Works wonders for denying enemies their xp.

    I believe the other big problem was that people were exploiting F4 rejoining so they could place an insane amount of mines in the Marine Spawn. I do agree that I wish there was a more elegant (yet still as simple) fix to this problem.

    I completely oppose this "fix." You can stop the F4 death-evading with a simple timer like what's on suicide. And I don't see why it's not possible to not give the marine a mine if he just joined the team.

    I'd prefer to see F4 and 'kill' disabled in combat and allow experience to stay. Or put a 'penalty timer' on a person rejoining. Even something small as a 30 second respawn wait for a rejoin would be enough of a deterrant for abusers while not punish those who drop their connection on an occasional basis.

    This actually fixes one of my gripes of not being able to revert to an earlier lifeform if needed. Say if the whole team was fade/onos/super skulk and a freak occurance caused the marines to gain a sudden advantage and they started attacking the hive (whereas before they were defending) and nobody could gorge to re-heal after they were cleared out, so we just basically had to camp the hive until the marine eventually destroyed it or we went all out into each other's bases to see who could kill the opposition base first...which is usually marines.

    Anyhow, nice change, now I can pick my classes <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I also actually like this for the same reason. Oftentimes I'd go superlerk for fun and suddenly see myself up against lots of heavy weapons and few jetpackers with mostly fades on my team. Now I can f4 and relevel up to an onos if my team can last long enough which may be able to turn the tide of the game.

    Thanks for clearing up the problem for me, but it still pains me to think that I'm forced to endure this because of the lamers. Oh well, such is the way of things.

    Other than changing teams (which doesn't transfer xp anyway) and going spec (which nobody but admins should do normally), I've never seen anyone use F4 in combat for a legitamate purpose. So, the only people who lose out are the people who go spec, and I have a hard time feeling sorry for them.

    edit: I take it back. Sometimes steam will crash. Quit/crash is hard to abuse, so how about just lose xp on F4?

    Releveling was not the intention of the removal of XP preservation. As a server admin, I hope to god it comes back.

    For the love of god, Flayra, decent servers have admins constantly present. Stop stooping NS to the level of the lamers, let them have a crappy gameplay experience they deserve it.

    I F4 often, mainly because I multitask a lot <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> I don't mind the change though. Although I don't keep experience, it allows me to rechoose my upgrades.

    Why not have a server variable for f4 that defaults to 3 seconds, just like kill? Or possibly tie it to the kill delay variable.
