Vets Don't Need A Com...

<div class="IPBDescription">apprently</div> Sorry for this moan but I'm just fed up with some vets being the noobest players on the server.

Example: I was commander on veil, 2 vets in my team (With stupid names of course like $, poopoohead, ^$%&"£ and Jaffa&^*) I thought, ohh this could be fun, marines who can aim AND follow orders. For the 20 min game they decided to ignore pg's that need building at base, along with ever other manner of structure, leaving a hive when i said i wanted to secure it (This hive being on the opposite side of the map to their WP), and attacking another hive on their own with ha and hmg. Then moaning that I didn't give them med packs and ammo, despite me telling them they weren't getting **** if they ramboed. Most of the rest of team at least tried to follow orders but the vets were just trying to get as many kills as possible. I may not be even a very good commander but I know at least in part how to win and thats through team play. These vets didn't show any team play what so ever. So I ask, why are they vets if they don't have a clue?

I've seen plenty of skilled, co-operative vets, but the vet medal's starting to mean nothing with all these complete noobs with them. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

People (including vets/consties/regular players) don't always join a game with the intention of doing everything the commander wants. I.E. they do voice_scale 0, hud_saytext_time 0, and just run around. Ban them if you don't like it, but otherwise deal with it.

Mostly as there are 'new vets' and 'old vets'. Most of the older ones will follow orders about half the time. The newer ones, it's about one out of fifty... after all, the only requirements for being a 'new' vet were that you be in a clan.

Don't expect class, just because they have the medal icon.

There are always those people who are "too good" to follow orders. I've noticed a few vets that really disgust me with their ignorance to the team. There is one vet clan in particular that has done nothing but fool around, relocate to areas such as vents where we have no chance of winning, eject commanders for fun, and totally disregarding waypoints.

like Talesin said, all the vet icon means now, is that your in a clan. That doesnt mean that there arent good new vets, just that there are plenty of jerk ones to go around. They take thier scrim and matches seriously, but go to pubs to screw around and play. Its not fun, for anyone else at least, and its giving vets a bad name.

Most anoying now is that n00bs see the medal, think vets rule, and do the same thing.

I say we either find a way to get rid of icons for n00bvets till there good, or dump vets completely.

Get rid of both. Icons and the vets.

I'd like to see the statistics for that. Pretty much all vets I play with WILL listen to me when I comm and will follow waypoints and such. 1 out of 50 is an absurd, fabricated number, even if it is exaggerated. I've played with a number of vets on many different servers, and they are nowhere near being the ignorant smacktards that people generalize them as.

People have a few bad run-ins with some vets (and probably critisized them unfairly) and they classify the rest as being smacktards.

i often have these kind of "vets" on the team as well, who sorta live in their own world..but hey, most do have skill as far as aim goes, so what the hell. let them be, and use your real guys to get stuff done =)

As long as I keep my cuddly constie icon, I will still love all.
/me grasps the constellation icon in a death grip

When the four-scrims-a-week rule will be enforced, most of those people will hopefully lose their icon along with their vet status.
I havent ran into any vets with the behaviour mentioned above, maybe its the fact that I only play on servers with mostly mature people (and/or good administration).

Flayra himself has realized that the new vet program was a mistake. I still only see a few idiot vets. Of course, most vets aren't uber awesome either, but they're good players as well.

Oh, and I don't believe the 4-times-a-week rule is going to be enforced now that the beta is out for everyone.

Personally I think the whole icon idea should be like it used to be, for admins and dev team people only. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I really don't see the use of an icon. It's just a 20x20(?) icon next to your name that allows its owner to brag if he feels like so. Sure it's a nice touch, but some people are just jackasses with them.

What would be cool are custom icons. Weren't client icons going to be added? Or was that just server icons?
