We Need Something To Encourage Ppl Going Gorge

I just came from 4 games that we got owned because only one ( usually me ) or no players plays gorge at the start.

This was on a 20 player server.

So i usually switch gorge, loosing 10 res, and i put a RT.

Then i check, everyone else is whoring the free 25 res.
With 10 aliens and 2 RTs, the res flow is pretty slow.
anyway you know the classic scenario.

What i want i something to help ppl go gorge more.

I say going gorge should cost 2 , maximum 5 res. Because the gorge by himself isnt dangerous. He NEEDS those 25 res to build, be we loose 10 going gorge. His spit is useless because it waaayy too slow. Bile bomb doenst do enough damage, the offense tower are winp too.

I really love playing gorge but it's ungrateful. Not enough ppl play it at the start.

    I'm finding that at the moment, some newbies just don't seem to use res at all. Sounds odd, I know, but I've seen skulks with 76+ res who just don't spend it. I think this is down to a) new people who're new to playing ns_ but have played co_ or maybe b) ignorance of the new onos cost. It's frustrating, because that skulk could be a fade/onos taking down elec RTs. Instead, they'll just run at the marines over and over. Hopefully, this will stop over time.

    I think there needs to be a Gorge Awareness Group. If I'm going gorge and placing RTs/chambers/hives down, please protect them and me. <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    there are some solutions that might work
    giving res to others (plugin exists)
    pausing your own res flow so the gorges get it
    or my own fav
    having res overflow occur at 50 res, all gotten res above that has
    1/2 given to those with less then 50.

    this isnt a new problem with 3.x beta, its been around since ive been playing(2.0) and im sure even before that. Simply, if everyone goes gorge at start and drops a rez node, then skulks, and protects those nodes, you can dominate the game. Most people just dont understand that you still need teamwork as aliens. Marines dont have this problem, because thier comm decides where and when the res nodes are dropped, and if you have a decent to good comm, it wont be a problem.

    I think gorges need to rehave the faster res attribution .

    BUT ! to prevent ppl going gorge to mass res and go onos, gorge should have 2 res pool.

    1-normal

    2- a second one where the additionnal res go. That pool can only be used to build stuff.

    and if you switch, you loose it. that would be great.

    i just stay away from 20 man servers cos it really sucks been gorge that might explain why not many ppl going them. The best way on a 20 man server is to team up with another gorge to build at a decent rate. Although i dont find many ppl go gorge on smaller servers anyway.

    I dont really mind ppl going gorge straight away, u need like a balance half gorge and other half lerk or maybe fade. it doesnt take long to go lerk at start of game and its reallt devistating for LA marines.

    The problem with having 2 pools could bring back the problem of only 1 gorge like old NS when u got screamed at for having more than 1 gorge. although it would depend on how it worked.

    Well tbh i tend to play on servers with alot of admins and if they notice you reswhoring or going fade everyround you will get kicked/slayed/banned/anything else they can think of thats nasty and evil.

    Yes people shouldnt have to be forced to gorge to help the team out, but it is a game after all and sometimes you dont want to be the slow gorge that gets hunted down by 20 marines because they think your weak.

    If i know a person on my team is a excellent fade and plays well as fade i wont ask him to gorge or get DCs id rather him be out killing and keeping them away from me so ill buy the DCs and some RTs.

    Basically play on a server with good people that play well.

    I personally cant stand a server with more then 16 people as the game becomes pointless.

    Actually prior to version 2.0 res flow was done in such a way that gorges got extra res per tick away from their team. So you could really only afford to have one gorge otherwise the res was really slow for the gorges and they couldn't put up any RT's to start the flow.

    So prior to that if you had 2 gorges on a team, people would be YELLING!! Gorges were like commanders, the team only wanted the best gorge who wasn't going to die.

    As to the original post, I think it's just the mentality of pub players today, I want to be the BIGGEST alien I can, and if I have to save for it, then I'm saving.

    Meanwhile if they were to realize that dropping the RT would come back to them 10 fold by the time they need to go ONOS, then more people might.. I think it's an education problem...

    The gorge should cost 5 res since it now is super weak and gets pasted by a l0 lmg marine without an oc to back it up. In 2.01, the higher res cost was justified by the fact that gorges were pretty tough to kill with no upgrades.

    I'm a little disappointed by 3.0 because of such reasons.

    In 2.0, you could defend yourself as a gorge with 2 offense chambers, no problem. You could secure certain areas with them, too. You could even spit LA to death! Nowadays, being gorge just doesn't pay off (I'm Gorge for 90% of the game time. I love it) anymore.

    Res whoring isnt bad....just as long as about 3/4 of your team ISNT. you aint gonna win games with just skulks or gorges either, you need a good balance between lifeforms.

    if you drop a rt at the begining and kill it IS better then res whoring since that way you could all go onos toghter (in a matter of speach..)

    you can only balance the game, not the players. it isn't up to the developers of ns to convince people to work as a team.

    if people on the server you're playing on refuse to gorge, find a new server.

    there is nothing wrong with gorge cost.

    We need to get a manual for noobs included with the mod so these noobs can read it, instead of bothering people that are trying to have fun. Sure I don't mind helping the first few hundred but damn after the 10,000th guy it is extremely old.

    I wish more people worked that way, just turn gorge, build rt's and then almost all of them can go back to skulk and fight, giving res to the rest by killing (it works that way right?)

    Since most new guys don't usually turn off auto-help it may be a nice thing to put in some pro-gorge propoganda in there to encourage more players to realise the benifits of dropping an RT for the team. And of course its always a good thing for one or two aliens to basically take up a leadership role (preferably with a mic) and dole out informal orders. Granted it still takes the others listening to do any good, but the same goes for comms too.

    Cute gorge skin becomes official.

    Pros
    > Rines no longer shoot gorges out of pity, making the evolve res worthwhile.
    > N00bs go gorge to shower ppl with "Love spray" custom sprite; healing in the progress.
    > Those n00bs are likely to do something vaguely uesful with that res for theirs. Even if it is an MC on a node at hive 1.

    It's the cost that discourages most people. Why spend 25 res to drop a res node when if you wait you an drop other things. Frankly, I don't see why we need to have a cost to evolve to gorge at all. Make it free to go gorge and then charge whatever cost to change to the class of your choice. I can a price for gorge if you have a shared res pool, but with individual res pools I don't see the point of draining alien res for the 'priviledge' of going gorge when it has no inherant benefit.

    What I'd REALLY like to see is a function where you can 'revert' to your previous evolution for 5 res. So a person that's a fade with a stash of res can go gorge, drop stuff, and then go back to fade for 5 res. (unless they get killed as gorge in which case they are SOL)

    if no one gorges, either u make teh sacrifice of goin gorge and try to encourage ppl through voice comm or simply wonder ard as a non-gorge lifeform and end up getting pawned.

    I don't have a problem with gorge so long as it is fun to play. Obviously if people don't want to play gorge then it isn't fun for them. If it isn't fun for them then we need to fix that. This is a game right? It's supposed to be fun to play.

    I liked how the scoring system was added to both CO and classic (that extra column to the left of kills in the score table), and ?maybe? it could be used to make the fatty more desirable to evlolve into.

    If you notice, fatties are usually at the top of the score chart because they have the most points from building res nodes, chambers, hives, and killing other marine structures. So y not turn these points into res??? So if im a fatty and I just bile bombed a marine res node I not only get +3 points on the scoreboard but i also get +3 res. This way, only fatties who actually build things and destroy other buildings get a res boost whenever they do something to help the team, whereas fatties who do jack squat get no boost at all.

    How does that sound?

    I think gorges could just use a armor boost since they are rather weak. When I was a gorge once, I took a tower and built 3Defense chambers around it. Soon enough two marines came in and started chasing me with lmgs and knives, after about a minute I aced them with spit while slowly healing, but the gorge cant last enough due to his lack of speed and armor. A lerk has low armor, but hes fast, a skulk as low armor, but hes fast, A gorge is just fat, you think all those donuts could block a few more bullets.

    ns is fun , but aliens who dun wan to gorge and refusing to gorge and tinking that is just like cs (fragz and killz) deserves a defeat and understand wat the game is all abt. they usually get their fun from fraggingz

    it just their mind..i doubt changin the gorge physics or balancin it will make ppl willing to gorge instead


    thor: a gorge will be better to move out in pairs or as a team.. run when u sense hostiles are near.

    mass gorgies will be fun , ya ?

    I'm not exactly sure how gorging and res worked in 1.04, could someone enlighten me?

    I may think that it should go back to how it was before, but I am still a bit cloudy on the subject.


    Personally I enjoy playing a gorge, and wish I could get res faster than the lamers who want a 1 hive onos. But going gorge on a 6-8 man team means you are gonna get res MAD slow. At least with the old system (how I think it worked), 1 or 2 gorges did all the building. This is what I would like.

    This would also be good since I am often the most experienced Classic alien player in many games (damn combat newbs).

    I kinda agree. The gorge still needs to cost something, since it is and should remain a viable marine strategy to hunt gorges early game. It should be reduced to 5-7 res. That way, killing a gorge is still advantageous to marines (avg 2 gain from R4K + 5 alien res lost).

    I like your revert idea. Alien flexibility is always nice.

    Could we try and raise the language bar here from gutter speak to just regular board speak? It won't kill you to type "you" and "don't" and "what".

    That being said, the main problem with being gorge is that you're punished for going gorge.

    You lose RP. And you earn less than anyone else.

    I spend 10 res to go gorge and am left with a measly 15 to build a RT, then 0 and I can wobbly slowly around the map and die if a marine sneezes at me. I can really understand why people dislike gorging.

    - Aliens start with 15 res

    - Gorges are free evolves

    OR

    - Any kill a gorge gives 3-5 res for himself, rather than 1-3

    I like the sound of this! Slows down the kharaa early game (IMO fades do come a little early) but gives a big boost in midgame since gorging for extra chambers etc. is effectively 10 res cheaper, so chambers, 2nd hive, etc. will all go up quicker.
