No CC? No problem!
I just finished a really intense game on SurfTown #3

Setup: Rines are fighting to control Satcom, Aliens have two other hives.

Ok, we finally lock down SatCom and we have a good deal of upgrades (W3 & A2).

We have PG in base, Satcom and a vent and are staging an attack on 2nd hive when suddenly *poof* we have no commander.

Seems a skulk snuck in and killed the CC (Oddly the comm, who was no n00b, claimed he had had no warnings and I believe him)...

Did we still win? Ya BETCHA!

Organized rushes and distractions fom the Marines, combined with overconfidence (I guess) from the Aliens won us the game. Aliens had 2 Onos when we won...

Just needed to get it out. FREAKING great!

I love big comebacks like that.

Biggest one I ever had. Marines were beating the crap out of us. They killed a hive and we only had 1 more.... about 75% done. So we figured that was the end of us, as I and 1 other Gorge were the only ones alive.

The remaining Gorge eventually got killed by some marine while running away... so it was down to just me.

I got into another hive area. Our still building hive came under attack. It was so close to being finished... I frantically spammed my drop sensory key. The hive went up and literally went down 1 second later... but I had a sensory. I quickly built it and threw up a hive before the POD did me in.

So here I am, cloaked. I dare not drop anything else for fear the marines would find me. Marines walked into the hive, wondering why the pinging stopped. But I guess they didnt expect us to have sensory, so nobody pinged. The confusion lasted long enough for a hive to get up and people to spawn. Luckilly we still had some Ds locked away, and someone with 100 res. He went Onos and kept the heavies at bay. Things just started falling into place, and we actually won. Yup, won. Biggest comeback I have EVER seen.

i will still never forget the first that that i commed as marine... Isent out one lone jetpacker to ultimatly win the game. i send a Jetpacker to go into 2 vents just in sight of seiges. i sent a train of marines with 1/2 heavys and other 1/2 lights marines. i establsihed a PG in the middle of the map and a res tower along with a turret factory. when 4 onos destroyed my mini base, they were saying phrases such as "GG" and "nice try marines" little did they know that i had a heavy train with HMGs and Grenade launchers, and 2 hives in sight of my lovly seige cannons. for some all of the aliens were guarding the place where they attacked my mini base. when I saw no aliens at the one hive, i ordered all of the marines to ignore the hive and goto the next one and take out some Onos on the way. when a big bloodbath begun, i scanner sweeped two of the alien hives. and they both went down in 10 seconds flat. then all the aliens confused didnt know what to do, by the end, all the onos were dead and i had 2 HAs with grenade launchers. who took down the last hive. so for the record, i literally took down all three hives in under a minute. That was my best NS memory ever.

    Niiiice.

I remember one game was really intense. This was back in 1.04...

I was on Marines. The match seemed pretty normal at beginning, we lived past the Skulk rush, they got two hives, we got JPs, Aliens started winning, blah blah blah, normal story...
So, base is going down, no IPs, and the Command Console was almost dead. Luckily, we had a lot of resources. One of the Jetpackers hid as most people did, though this time, he actually made a base where he stood. We were also able to cough up some res for an armory. When the Aliens, not quite done finishing off the base, realized that Marines were spawning again, they begain searching, saying things like, "Come to my, silly Marine", and the usual endgame Alien taunts. Our commander, a smart guy, realized the Aliens left the Proto Lab intact, and built no structures. He resarched HA (we still had some RTs ^_^) while the Aliens search, and eventually found the Marine secondary base. He also re-established base defense, and coughed up a TF, armory, and an IP (TF because the Aliens didn't take out all the turrets, and they had a tough time with them). So, while the spawning Marines held off the Alien onslaught as long as they could (which was REAL long), the Commander had re-established a base with two IPs near-ready to go. The instant he saw the IPs down, he ran out, finished building the other two, and coughed up the last resources we had on four HAs, Welders, and HMGs. I was in that 4 HA squad ^_^. So, when the Aliens found that we were spawning again, they came back, confident to kill us, and the Aliens met with some pretty cheezed HAs. Everything died but us . So, off we moved, down to Triad, into Eclipse, and gunned it down, Commander spamming ammo and health the whole time, welder orgies going on. On we moved to Comp Core, which met the same, quick fate, and finally, Maintenance. However, the Aliens weren't that stupid, and were taking out our base again, but now we had no IPs, and they had no hives (all the Gorges were in odd places with no D chambers, redem didn't work... delicious death). Us 4 vs. 3 Onos. After a long and hard battle, one team proved themselves dominant...

my team once won a game after not having a hive for a few moments

the game was in stalemate for much of the game and the rines started saving res for mass HA rush. aliens had 3 hives and about 3 onos when the HA rush started.

The HA train took out one of the hives, and onos and a fade or two. they then started moving out to the next hive which was taken out pretty fast. on their way to the last hive.

We were pretty sure we were gonna lose this game but decided to do a final umbra rush into rine spawn just as the HA started phasing into third hive.

about 2 fades, an onos and a few skulks attacked rine spawn. The rine spawn and the phase gate went down and the HA were all stranded back at the last hive with a small turret farm, while getting attacked by the rest of the skulk team

===the following events happened VERY quickly. in just a bit over 45 seconds===

while rine spawn was going down the HA train moved in to the last hive and took it down...1 onos, 2 gorges and a couple of skulks were still alive at the time, barely surviving off regen

about 8 seconds after the hive went down one of the gorges put up another hive.

the commander quickly dropped a cc at the hive we just lost and then got out of the chair and gotten killed by the surviving skulks and onos at rine spawn.

the surviving aliens (1 onos, about 3 skulks, 2 gorgies) all grouped up outside the hive that was being relo'ed to.

while about 3 injured HAs were building the cc and ips the aliens rushed in and managed to win the game

I love it when this happens, fully loaded HA train, moving out to one of two or three hives. Aliens come up with the idea that they'll win if the marine base goes down. Obviously this isn't going to mean jack unless you can kill some heavies. If you haven't seen a heavy get killed yet as alien, you need to be focusing on the HA train not the enemy base. The only real benefit killing the marine base this late, would be stopping marines from spawning and or having them refitted protolab gear + heavy weapons. Even then, thats not going to dent a damn thing in the marines chances to win. You would have had to take out all their res nodes first, so they don't have enough res to rebuild a base. Unfortunately this leads back to if you have been killing HA or not. If the commander has been refitting marines you kill, then he's not going to have a pool of res. More than likely the comm will always have just enough to set up a base somewhere for his HA train.

The best part is, the commanders mostly won't do a thing when base is under attack. They'll just laugh while the hard hitters are distraced with the base that isn't being recycled. Theres another big sign that he's got alot of res. Even better, the aliens might leave whats left of the base when the heavy train crashes into hive one, not even finishing what they started :o.

And so, the heavies marched on all three (or two) hives, thus crushing the kharaa for being nubcaeks.

Good story man, winning without a comm is tough.

Though I have a feeling aliens didn't give much of a hard time.

We once had a fully teched up base in 1.04 on hera, when a skulk came in and sneaked up the commchair level. Sadly enough, just a moment before that, the comm dropped an obs, wich was half on the elevator platform, resulting in us not getting up there.
While we heared the skulk munching down the cc we tried to make ladders, but it didn't work out quite good. 10 min after that the onos came..

    heh some good games here.

I remember a 1.04 match on bast, we had no hives, and I was hiding in refinery with a skulk. I was a gorge. We still had about 5-6 rts, so I was on 100 res.

Jetpackers had killed our hives. I set refinery off, and a jetpacker flew in and killed it with his hmg. I immediately put it back up again, and the skulk killed him. I ran quickly to engine, didn't get caught, and started that off. Meanwhile, another jetpacker flew in to refinery and starting killing the hive. He killed it, I started it off again immediately.

Each time a jetpacker flew in, it was the same story. I kept putting that hive back up, about 5 times, all the while, engine was being built. Eventually, engine went up, the whole team had loads of res, everyone evolved, and we went and killed the marines off.

heh, they were REAL **** off.

The only good comeback story I have was possible due to incompetence on both teams. If you don't feel like reading a long (somewhat pointless) story about a game played, then don't read the rest of this post.

It was 1.04, bast, I was alien, we start in engine hive. Our starting gorge doesn't know what he is doing, really. I think he put up the rt outside the hive first, I'm not sure, but after that he proceeded to place 3 or 4 oc's outside the hive, rather than dc's or rt's. Due to good skulking, we managed to keep the marines out of atmos. processing and feedwater during this time. Eventually, me and another player decide to go gorge, at practically the same time, so that we can get some rt's up. I head to refinery hive and put up one rt there. Shortly after this goes up, I see that I am the only gorge left, and there is some pressure on engine hive. I proceed to put up the other rt near refinery, and engine hive is almost constantly being attacked at this point, so I have to save for refinery hive now. I put it up, and when it is about halfway built, engine hive goes down, and I am the only one left. I did manage to get a few oc's up for defense along the passageways to refinery hive before engine went down. The comm scans refinery hive, and sees me and the hive there.

Amazingly, in the next minute and a half or so, there is no attack on refinery. The marines don't secure feedwater. They don't even secure atmos. So, with the huge reserve of res that we have once everyone spawns in, I throw up some dc's, and we go kill the marines who just got to feedwater. I'm not sure whether I put up feedwater hive or if the other gorge did, but we put it up, along with 8 oc's and 8 dc's (that makes 304 res spent in about a minute). That hive went up no problem. Then we got fades. At about that time, I had to leave for class.

My friend joined shortly after I left, and he played on marines. Apparently, they killed several hives quite a few times, but there were always lots of fades, too many to kill. At one time, the marines wanted to siege feedwater from atmos. side, but they couldn't scan because a skulk had killed their obs, so he ran into the water pit and swam around in there until the hive was dead. Eventually, the aliens won, and the game ended just before I got back from my hour-long class.

Try to win a game when in the very beginning, your team's CC is wiped out, leaving you and three other guys to finish off the aliens hive, which have 8 other aliens defending it.

4 vs 8. Guess who won?

Da marines! Through superior communication and leadership, we managed to win while only loosing two men. Real game, happened on 1.04, in hera. My friend was the one who got us all together (that was back on the SoM server, forget the dudes name) and lead us to victory.

If your reading this post and that was you, cheers.

I think it's bad that marines can win with no comm. I mean, good game and all and very well played, but isn't that saying something about aliens? All the alien comebacks are due to marines just sitting there and doing absolutely nothing. Marine comebacks could have aliens doing their best and giving it their all and still losing. And lets not speak of turtling certainly...

I remember an NS_Nothing comeback in 1.0. Aliens had powersilo, great viaduct, and were fighting over cargo. Eventually we lost, cargo, and marines locked it down. Slowly but surely marines began to take over the map, until we were down to powersilo, with HA train on the way.

As they began marching it, some other people and I started making runs on the CC. We got it down to about half, died, and found it welded when we got back. We rushed some more and it was at about 1/4 when I went down. Then the hive went down.

With half our team already dead, it was but a short while until we were down to 1 alien. While most of the marines ran back to spawn, he went gorge, and re-dropped the hive in silo (which was not reinforced.) While we sat and watched him sitting under the hive, a couple marines came in, and just sort of stared at the hive-in-progress (our gorge was under the hive behind the ledge.) Then a couple shot at it, and one hopped over the water and next to the hive. While he was knifing it, our gorge sat there for a while, and then finally spit him to death. The rest of the team just stood there once they ran out of ammo - I'll never know why.

Eventually it went up and we started respawning. We were able to retake great viaduct, and then marine spawn.

Even though it happened back when most of us didn't know how to play the game, it was always the example of why I don't think aliens should die without a hive.
