Servers To Practice Commanding?

OK, I'm starting to get into the game now; I can hit a skulk with a machinegun some of the time... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

But what I want to know is; how can I learn to command? As everybody's game hinges on the commander's actions, I don't want to screw up a whole team's game as I learn the ropes.

So what can I do? Are there any clanservers willing to accommodate?

    start your own game and type in sv_cheats 1, that will let you play round on your own!

    atm there seems slim chance of being flamed when commanding in the v3 beta, just dont take what everyone says to heart but be mindful of it damnit!

    Trust me, if youre new to commanding NOW is the time to play on almost any server. The influx of new players and the lack of people willing to comm = win

    First learn game dynamics (you can learn by watching/playing games and starting your own server with cheats- checking prices of buildings, ugprade times and how whole tech tree looks like)..
    Then try to command on smaller server (you will most likely loose the game, but you will get less whinning from marines) and if you like it, practice more, try bigger servers, develop your own strategies and work on your speed..
    (Speed is important on big servers, if you need to track MT blips and check by listening what kind of alien is approaching hive, repond to request promtly, plan and command at same time.. not all commanders do it ofcourse, but good do..)

    You could also wait till official NS 3.0 release in steam.. this will mean HUGE influx of new playrs, what we are experiencing now is nothing..

    There are no bots for 3.0 as yet, but you can download Whichbot for 2.0x.

    also some basic tips
    help full rules for when you comm
    1. use the mic, to help with waypoints. When I give way points, I select the people I want. say thier full scren name, tell them to go to waypoint at "topo" or "pipeline" basicly where ever thier waypoint is. When they get there, I thank them as well.
    2. always try to be reserching something, after you get a little bit of rez, get an obs up first, and research phase gates, a phase gate is the biggest advantige other than seige to reens. Alians have movements but they only take you to hives.
    3. Try and get armor and weapon up grades soon as well. upgrades give the reens a very big advantage. I like getting w1,a1,w2,w3,a2,a3.

    I'd go armor 1, weapons 1, weapons 2, weapons 3, armor 2 followed by armor 3. The difference between weapons level 0, and weapons 1 is 1 bullet.

    The primary purpose of weapon upgrades, especially weapons 1, is the affect on heavy weapons and not the affect on LMGs. Lvl 0 shotguns do nothing against a fade, but give me a Lvl 3 shotgun and I can probably solo a good fade 30-50% of the time. I'm serious.
