F4 And Marines

Today, I was playing a great game, but one player was doing something extremely annoying -- he would F4 any time he was about to die. Webbed with aliens closing in? F4. Time to reload during a fight? F4. Attacking a hive and out of ammo? F4.

Since RFK has been added to the game, he was denying us res as well as jerking our team to respond to threats that disappeared when confronted. Meanwhile, other marines were of course attacking different areas etc.

F4 also has implications in combat where it's basically the equivalent of the kill command (which is disabled in combat).

Suggested solution: F4 = spectator mode for 5 seconds, THEN return to the ready room.

Ummm... wouldn't he lose all his levels in combat if he F4s?

Seems to me like he is doing you a favor by keeping his levels low.

I banned an user other day 'cause he was doing this... =P

and... 5 seconds only? ithink 30s, than admins can see who is abusing...
    and more:

    one more time i aks:
set a server variable that allows the admins to enable or disable the F4 use.

    Why not this? ;D

    sv_readyroom 0 > disable the F4/impulse.
    sv_readyroom 1 > no F4 restrictions.

This will give server ops to make their own choice.

    I forgot...

a friend of mine from Readyroom.com.br develped a metamod plugin that blocks readyroom. For those server ops who hate this newbies using F4 all the time... check this out: READYROOM.COM.BR

you keep your lvl in co..when ever you d/c or f4...I THINK...i know you keep your lvl if you leave the game and come back and join the same team

I believe so...your levels and upgrades corresponding to your team are preserved for that map. So even if you F4/impulse, disconnect, or switch teams and switch back later, everything is preserved for that Combat match. Convienient in some cases (i.e. random client crashes, connection problems, etc.), but also easily exploitable, as described here. A server variable allowing/blocking F4 use is a good idea, but perhaps a variable that dictates whether levels and upgrades are preserved upon returning to the ready room/disconnecting. Both used in tandem could prove effective.

But then, say someone leaves early and unbalances the teams, 5-3 or something, so you go and switch. Then someone else joins when it's 4-4, and he joins the team you switched to, and you're really in the mood for the other team. No experience == loose, but I guess the round will end soon enough anyway...

F4 has legitimate uses and shouldn't be removed. Just make it so that there is a definite penalty for abusing it.

Why not simply add the same delay to it kill has in classic ? It could even work of the same cvar.

I'll also agree with Pheonix. I've played on servers with F4 disabled, and it gets extremely annoying. There are legitmate uses for F4 that really shouldn't be removed.

When a player presses F4 and enters the readyroom, he should, IMHO, have a 10 second penalty put on him before joining another team. Sort of like the time before a marine can command again when he leaves the chair.

Because right now it is annoying, and needs to be stopped.

    10 seconds only?
W-T-F a player wants to do in readyroom during a round?
At least 30 seconds should be.

about the delay... i agree too. Press F4 and 7 seconds later player joins RR. But if someone pressed before been eaten by an Onos, it should be canceled the Readyroom acess.

But that does not solve the problem, which is players denying res-per-kills to the other team.

There should not be a delay to join a team, but to enter the Ready Room.

No, thats really not a serious problem. RFK are useful, yes, but they are a relatively small part of the balance of NS Classic. They are only of critical importance in NSCombat, where kills are your ONLY source of income. Denying the marine the ability to participate in the game for an extra 10 seconds or so should be plenty to compensate for you not getting your 1 or 2 res. It's like a free devour! Plus anything expensive he was carrying doesn't drop, it just vanishes.
