Reaction to NS 3.0 betas
It's time I did something I should've done a long time ago: become a constellation member!
I've been playing the NS 3.0 betas and I am LOVING it! The confusion of an RTS/FPS hybrid has always plagued this game to some degree, but it's been all but solved now. The addition of a "map" button has made NS infinitely better! I've mapped it to my middle mouse and constantly check it to get an instant situational update! It's wonderful! And now I don't have to worry about maps I don't know too well either, just hold down the map button and see the whole layout. The optimizations, bugfixes, balances and new features (grenades!) are great too, but the map was by far the best.
I've been with NS ever since it began, and I have to say, they've done nothing less than create a new subgenre (the squad-based-FPS/RTS-w/voice chat?) and easily the equivalent of a full priced product bought at the store. I plan to "buy" this game ASAP as I should have done earlier and I encourage everyone who enjoys it to do the same!
P.S. I know this is the wrong section for this, but can the NS team see about adding some way to see the names of the people running around while holding the map key?

That has just confused everyone, but even when it is released, it will be refered to a as a beta, even though it isn't.
Not me, I'd rather play 3.0 "official".
The minimap is disabled for combat in 3.0. It works like normal in normal NS.
When they get the money together for the Natural Selection sequel on whatever newer, more advanced engine* they'll have available, I hope they make the minimap a toggle action**, and possibly streamline it with cool features like transluscent sector names to match the ones on the HUD, and a rotating, zooming 3D profile of the level which would make vent locating and crawling a lot easier than the current dark blue light blue system.
* HL2
** which I know can be scripted, but... euch... I'd feel guilty for not holding the button down till my fingers got sore like everyone else does.
the MAP was only inserted in 2.0. The map is still a bit clunky though, enemies shown on it SHOULD be shown on hive sight as well like they used to be. Silly to have to blind yourself to know the telepathic information.
Standing in Cargo in Tanith with the whole alien team screaming it must be aimbot because you're turning to face them the instant they walk in
At least it doesn't skulkdar cloakers anymore. One step on the way to dark shadowy places!
