Just because you used a few of the same textures, does NOT mean it is eclipse! WOW, that is just awesome! The lighting, arcitecture, just friggen amazing! I just love the mini pipes and grating walkway over them... it seems so natural.
Don't scrap, this is bloody amazing!

Eh, there's a couple things that bother me, but I'm a nitpicky little #####.

Looks wonderful. No way.. Not a ripoff.. Looks like a totally different map.. minus the fact that is uses some of the same textures.

well, it looks like eclipse just cause of the textures, and it looks really nice. The only thing that worries me about is the arched columns in the far wall in the 2º shot, that seems kinda Eclipse ones (not exactly a ripoff but they look very close to the ones in Eclipse). But im not the one to talk about this as i also have a big part of my map using that texture style and i can maybe also have some structure looking like the Eclipse ones... The 1º shot is really nice although you can try using spot lights in the ceiling over the doors to give it a more inmerse atmosphere, although i believe this part of the map is very near marine start so its good.

Continue this way plague, it looks really really nice.

Wow. I like immensly. Just 2 things...

A-Keep the big hive room with the windows.

B-Keep the underwater theme

C-KEEP THE ROOM WITH THE TWO POOLS!
• PlaguebearerPlaguebearer Join Date: 2002-03-21 Member: 338Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Those -are- spotlights, actually. I think I have them set too diffuse, though. I'm taking some of the lights out, gonna see how it looks.

RE: various parts of the old map...

As much as I can, the old favourites will be there - my fave being the hive with the big broken pipe, forming a 'waterfall'.

The sub bay - the room with the two pools - will be there, in some form. I may divide the two pools, though, if only so i can put them in more-detailed rooms.

And, of course, the underwater theme will stay. Somehow, some way

Thanks for all the input, folks. Though Andrew's got me thinking, now. That ratbastid.

Wow looks really nice, i love those pipes really........ the lighting its cool, and i like all the other style that you can see on the first pic on those 2 corridors =).
The only thing i may add is that on the second pic, the lights on the columns look weird, but the architecture of that room its so unique and wonderfull that it doesn´t look like eclipse =)
• RhoadsToNowhereRhoadsToNowhere i r 8 Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 33Members
I wouldn't say this looks too much like Eclipse. It doesn't have the generally clean-cut and high-tech feel of Eclipse, but instead it's a bit more sinister, which is cool. Minor nitpick, I'm not completely fond of the textures on the left side of the first shot. I think the pink wall way on the left side needs a bit more detail, and the texture on the structure above the pipes doesn't really fit the brushwork that well. But you've got nice architecture and lighting overall, can't wait to see more.

I LIKE! This makes the map much scarier than Eclipse seems in screenies. It adds quite a bit more distance between the two maps.

This shows how an env_gamma can change the feel of a map.....
I personally think that it looks better this way =)
• PlaguebearerPlaguebearer Join Date: 2002-03-21 Member: 338Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
There's no env_gamma involved. I simply kept tweaking the lights.rad settings of the overhead lights, lowering them bit by bit, til they were dim enough that the spotlights showed, but bright enough to light the surroundings.

Took about six compiles...

Looks really great, PB. I don't think it looks like an eclipse ripoff at all. You've done a great job making it look unique even though it shares some of the textures.

As far as criticism goes, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the walls lit up a little more. I like the spooky feeling the shots have, but it might look even better if you highlighted structural detail a little more with light.

Though, I must say... the lighting is very nice in the way that it allows for lots of dark spooky shadows up near the ceilings but is lit up enough near the floors.

Keep at it, this is great.

I really like the angled architecture - I feel that is the primary thing that really makes these shots unique. Also, if those two dark exits are an example of some of the connecting hallways, I can't *wait* to see some of those... really atmospheric design up in there.

The pipes are lovely. I have to wonder, has anyone ever taken that pipe texture and changed the color levels in photoshop? might be a quick & dirty way to get some "new" colors. Maybe try a blue, red, or steel.
• BattousaixBattousaix Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 822Members
I just noticed, on the first pic, on the left corner, that texture around those pipes, it looks weird..... When you look at it that texture looks out of place, i think you should just leave the light and the stripes, the rest cut it off and place the normal wall texture you are using, also on the 3rd pic (the first pic with new lighting) the white lights are far too bright imho.
PD: That vent texture looks out of place....

Wow man!
My first words when seeing the screenshots. I don't think it's like eclipse at all, maybe just a little because of the textures, but what the hey! I really (and I mean really) love the arcitecture. Very unique!

I'm wondering what the r_speeds are, could you give them please?

glad to see you're still working on it PB s:) Lighting and architecture are great. There's only 1 thing that bothers me, and that's that railing texture you used in this shot , also you can see the floor is made out of 2 brushes, you prolly know this already, but you can group those 2 brushes and take the up face from 1 of those 2 brushes, and put it in the main group, then delete the up face from the other brush. I tried to make it clear with this pic, i dragged the upface of the first brush out of its "folder" and put it at the bottom of the group, then i simply deleted the upface of the second one.

[EDIT]
sorry for the size of the thing, but even resizing it to 80% makes the text look all wierd. the "error" in the openGL view is actually my cursor, small error since i got those last nvidia drivers s:]

Nice work. Try to stay in that theme. I like how there are big corridors. And don't make many ladders(trying to avoid the lvl5 ladder climbing) Use the lifts!

Oh, and I have an idea for the main hive. Why don't you make the main hive in some sort of air conditioning area where all the ventalation shafts leave. So there would be something like 8 alien only passages so aliens could spread easily. It would really give the feeling like the place would be the centre and mainplace of evil aliens and stuff

I made blue and green versions, for the original Europa. Everyone said I should make them gold, to stay in the NS 'gold pipe' theme.

The railing texture is .. D6_RUST I think the name is. I used that because I'd already used it elsewhere in the map, and figured it would make a nice, dark, generic rail.
