did you install NS Open Beta 1 first? (beta 2 is a patch)
AND I HAVE MY FATTY!!!!!! FEAR IT!!!!! (I Missed webs <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
I have the same problem, I have installed the beta1 patch. and unistalled and reinstalled NS, Steam and Halflife, but i still have the same error. My virus checker is updated, and I regularly de-frag - virus check - add check - and i have a one year old box with the latest drivers for video, sound and OS.
Beta 1 worked on its' own.
While penny-arcade is nice, dont be a pole smoker.
ok so is there a fix to this or not? because i cant connect to servers because of that either. but however i can connect to ONE server.... <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
anyway would there be a kind soul out there that would make a link to download his file of client.dll that DOES work?
so beta 2 wont work on beta 1? ... looks like i installed the wrong version <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Install Beta 1 patch it up to beta 2
play on beta 2 servers (b/c beta 2 is that much cooler, if for no other reason then gorges are back in combat <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
however I am still having the same problem, read my above post,
so I unistalled HL
then Installed in the following order HL Steam NS 2 NS 2B1 NS 2B2
and I am still having DLL errors AND I can play as NS 2b1 My thought is maybe some of the DL sites on the Net have some kind of messed up installer, so my question is which files go where?
ok seruko, these are the files that i got and they work for me:
install HL on your computer from the box. go to steampowered.com and DL steam (doesnt really matter which one) then i went and DL NS beta 1 from fileplanet.com (if you want a password to the subscribed account, give me a yell to my e-mail) then i used this site to get a link to beta 2 DL, the mirror i used was again from fileplanet.com.
well if you do that i am sure it will work for you.

you actualy don't even need to install HL <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
the steam installers come with it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Gosh, well I'm honored. Look at my date. I've been playing this game for almost two years. I know how to read. I have read. I have followed the instructions. I have virus checked. I have de-fraged. I have add checked. I have updated my drivers. I have played HL tut, after installing steam but before installing NS (vis a vis the instructions). I have Dl, 3.0B1 then installed. I have Dl, 3.0b2 then installed into what ever DIR it wants (just hit enter). I have installed 3.0b2 into NSP DIR. I have installed 3.0b2 into NSP/DLL DIR. After each of the above four steps failed to let me play, I tried the step beneath it. But didnt repeat the step itself.
My errors have come in three flavours. 1. Error message "DLL" - wouldnt play either Beta 2. Error Message "DLL" - would play 1 but not 2 3. No error message steam hangs half way through loading NS (note hang means Not Responding after 10 Min [not I just get bored after 2 second wait]).
I most often have error 3 after the first of the four steps. When i have error 3 I unistall steam and repeat steps from "I have played HL tut, after installing steam but before installing NS (vis a vis the instructions)."
I can tell the diffrence between a 10meg file Named Beta 2, a 150meg File named Beta 1 and a 500k Steam File named Steam.
I think that I might have found the problem. Steam says that it is using 100kb of bandwidth for halflife and dod, but they are not running, anyone know what is up with that? <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->

/me screams
you see, if you had actualy specificaly told us what was hapening we could have helped you.
CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE INSTALLED NS PROPERLY MANY TIMES
and then promptly deleted it.
Rule for Steam: If you tihnk it aint doing anytihng, it probably is. Dosn't matter if your not getting ANY response from steam for ove 1/2 an hour, its probably downloading crap.
How to stop this: Play with Steam setting untill you find the thing that says Don't Auto Update stuff.
your done.
Now an explenation of WHY we couldn't help you faster: You never actualy said that you had SPECIFICALY followed the directions (infact you never realy did aparently, you just got lucky) Even in your last post you said you never actualy made sure you installed steam to the Dir we told you to (steam\steamapps\youremail\Half-Life)
okay dude i had this problem but i fixed it in 10 seconds. Do this.
Use beta 2 installer and install it to its OWN directory like C:/nsp then copy everything in there to your Steam/blahblah/nsp directory and if that doesnt clear it up then you dont have the same problem that i had. I don't know why but the installer didn't seem to want to overwrite the files already there.
perhaps you missed the part where I said "yah I've done that" Perhaps you're just a guy whose trying tohelp people and dosnt bother to read the post with which they ask for help. Perhaps instead you are simply this guy

make sure what ever you are running on your client is the same as the server. Nuff said.
The possible choices are:
NS2.0
NS3.0 Beta 1
NS3.0 Beta 2
make sure you match the friken server!
... looks like i installed the wrong version <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

however, i did not install beta 1, i just installed beta 2 straight away, can that be the problem?
from the downloads page.
I would suggest going back and folowing the directions.
omgosh i feel stupid
read my above post,
so I unistalled HL
then
Installed in the following order
HL
Steam
NS 2
NS 2B1
NS 2B2
and I am still having DLL errors AND I can play as NS 2b1
My thought is maybe some of the DL sites on the Net have some kind of messed up

oh yah I've been dl the Beta2 from Yoclan.com.
Seruko
You need a TOTAL of 3 Files:
Steam Installer (your choice any one will work, just MAKE SURE YOU PLAY HL USSING IT BEFORE YOU TRY OT INSTALL NS 3.0 Betas!)
NS V3.0 Beta 1
NS V3.0 Beta 2
Install Steam
Install NS V3.0 Beta 1
Install NS V3.0 Beta to this dir:
.....\Steam\SteamApps\YourEmaill\Half-Life
I can freaking read, so yah I've done that.
I will try re-installing to the diffrent DIR tho
install HL on your computer from the box.
go to steampowered.com and DL steam (doesnt really matter which one)
then i went and DL NS beta 1 from fileplanet.com (if you want a password to the subscribed account, give me a yell to my e-mail)
then i used this site to get a link to beta 2 DL, the mirror i used was again from fileplanet.com.
well if you do that i am sure it will work for you.
the steam installers come with it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
you just have to play HL once.
