Catpacks In Combat

Is it really worth getting it?
Like the title says: Is it really worth getting it? I know that catpacks r really usefull when engaging a onos or fade. Heck they can be ones best friend when engaging all aliens. But my problem is that u get those damm things at places u dont need it and when you are about to engage the enemy the effect of the catpack is gone. And in times when u hunger for some catpacks like a junkie u dont get them. For this sole reason I dont tend to get em and spend that point to get another upgrade. If it was possible to bind an button so u could choose when u want your catpacks or that it drops when u r engaging the enemy it would be more usefull.

What do u guys think about this?

Second of all isnt it better to have 3rd radio saying like i need an medpac, i need ammo and i need an catpack?

Before beta 2 made heavy armor cost 2 upgrades, I used to get catalysts at level 10. They really helped for fending off groups of aliens, target the weakest first, then get the catalyst after you kill them, so you can take down the stronger aliens easier. However, now that heavies cost 2 upgrades, my normal upgrade order needed adjusting, and catalysts got cut. They're just not really worth it now that I don't have an upgrade to spare.

Damn... For some time I thought that the catalyst kicks in only after a period of time. Now that I know how they work, I might start using them. I like the idea of faster ROF and running speed (I'm a coward, so I run from battles (joking)). So I think they are defienetly worth it. At least in the beginning, when/if skulks desperately just want to get one kill before dying. Cat-packs could help keep them away.

I like them. Since they now dont hurt you when u receive them they are even better. Hmg and cats= dead onos. Get them early or at lvl 10. Remember you have to kill something to get them, so if your a person who gets a score of 2-30 dont get them.

It's a little problematic that, well, when you get a cat, you tend to be out or nearly out of ammo anyways, unless you happen to cherry pick that unobservant lerk (in which case it rocks to fill an onos with shotty power!) It is still useful, especially in the early game (marines with catalyst can OUT RUN skulks), but, admittedly, it could be raised in effectiveness if, say, it kicked in on your first shot of a full clip or something (albeit it might make it broken).

    *shrugs* Unsure.

I noticed that sometimes ull get it as soon as u respawn. In some situation it could be handy but when nobody is around its useless. Ok ull get faster to the destination u want but besides that. Is it possible to get the cat pack after u fired a shot like sugjested before. If cat packs acted that way, would it be fair to the aliens? Or is the IMO random drop of cat packs intentially done that way for ballance reasons?

The only time I got catpacks were in hambone mode (because they were bugged and you basically got them for free). But due to their randomness and, for me at least, ineffectiveness I never get them now. I know quite a few consties supported the idea of storing up catpacks when you got kills and then being able to use them, if that was put in they would become a very nice upgrade.

    Suggestions:

If catpacks increased your reload speed, they might become very popular for all tech strings.

I reckon they still cost too much in classic.

Could increase your accuracy cone slightly for the weapons that use it. This would make them very much more worth it, they would make you an effective killing machine but only if you could get a kill without them first in combat and have 20 res + 4 res spent on you in classic.
Improved accuracy doesn't help much versus say... an onos, slightly verse a fade and might even make it harder to kill a lerk (if you have your crosshair just off the lerk, which is very easy to do, not as much spray will hit it as before) as for skulks and gorges you can kill them without the cat pax anyway and if your comm wants to spend 4 res on you just to kill a skulk eject him.

If cats made you reload faster, they'd be my 1st upgrade in combat, every game, no exceptions.

I like catpacks. The speedboost helps me to survive a lot longer. It could last a little bit longer IMHO.
