Got Divx?
The AVI file is encoded in the DIVX format. Now if you have the proper decompression you can view it, somtimes, if not it produces unpredictable results.

SOLUTIONS FOR FUTURE VERSIONS:

1. INCLUDE DIVX ENCODING FILES

2. ENCODE IN STANDARD "AVI" FORMAT.
PAINTSHOP PRO CAN DO THIS THEN THE VIDEO AND AUDIO JUST HAVE TO BE PUT TOGETHER, THIS CAN BE DONE WITH THE WINDOWS 95 AVI EDITOR. (Attached)

Hope This Helps!
Id do it myself, but i dont have the original video stream.

NOTICE: I STATE THAT THE FILE IS SAFE. HOWEVER, USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! WHENEVER YOU DOWNLOAD A FILE YOU SHOULD VIRUS CHECK IT. THIS FILE WAS MADE BY MICROSOFT.

Why would they need a new program? They obviously managed an avi with the divx codec. All they have to do is re-export with a different codec.

Er, is this news? Aren't you given a message on the screen (while hearing the sound) explicitly stating that you don't have the proper DivX codecs?

Well most people dont go in and find out that the divx is whats wrong. They believe it should work from the begiong, but lets not go there. I did some more diging, and thats only half the problem. The process of "calling" the vid is not correct, or stable. (Probly Why DOD, CS, TFC... dont have a vid on start). Im guessing it might be a problem with steam, then were screwed

VIDEO? WHERE?!?!? I didn't even SEE this thing (and I have divX and Xvid and Mkv, and a bunch of other things installed [yes I love to watch anime, ahem]) but I didn't even SEE any type of video at all?! *goes to dig in his NSP directory* something tells me it's not calling it properly to be played whenever it should be?

*edit* - a ha, I found the video... it's ... nice, but it still never plays when I open NS */edit*

Ya I know, I admit i was wrong . However the divx coding was still a problem . So i brought somthing to their attention, another possiility is STEAM doesnt support other codecs in the intro, so then your right back where you started because without the compresison its ****in huge! Ah well. ill keep looking into this to see if i can find a solution.

xvid isn't that much better then divx. Doesn't have a standard build either although the ffdshow filter works pretty good for decoding.

FFDShow doesn't decode the opening movie though via Steam (I've tried). You specifically need a DivX5.x codec installed. (The fourCC was set to div50 BTW. Does anyone know how to re-enable the videos again? I want to see if changing the fourCC helps)

XviD is now up to RC1 at the very least.

I was talking about using ffdshow for xvid as that was brought up. I have the divx codec installed so I don't know if it would be sufficient alone for steam. You WOULD have to have it registered to handle the divx codec (an option during install).

The safest bet if you want to return the (annoying) intro videos would be to use the microsoft codecs as they come standard with media player. Use the version 7 ones or even the version 6 ones. Or you could make a bink video if steam allows such things.
