Quirky Odd Problemo.... Help

<div class="IPBDescription">Can monse figure this one out?</div> Recently I have been switching drivers for my 9800XT to see which ones run the best and have stumbled upon a strange peculiarity that I cannot find a fix for.

When playing MOST games, both OpenGL and D3D, the games will load up, and then toss me back to my desktop as if I had alt-tabbed. The game will still be loading or running on my taskbar at the bottom of my screen. Whenever I click to bring the game back up to fullscreen, my monitor will switch from desktop to the game, then throw me back to the desktop with the game still on the taskbar. I hear the game music and everything throughout.

It happens with every ATI driver from 3.8-4.1, and even the 2 newest DNA drivers.

The card is not overclocked and the temperatures are normal.

SOMETIMES if I am lucky, I can reboot and the game will run fine only right after the reboot. This happens very seldom(ly?)

Anybody seen this before or have any advice? Am I overlooking something simple?

This problem happens with Half-Life and all mods (even with a full reinstall of HL, Steam, and all mods yesterday), Warcraft3, Planetside, DiabloII, Madden2k4, and Morrowind.

Yeesh. Is it a new card? Did it happen before making driver changes? Who's the card manufacturer?

My friend had a very similar problem once, and he got very angry and punched his computer, and i swear to GOD it started running perfect. So check the card is in properly, or hit your computer with something.

    Manufacturer is ATI.

Like I said, it happens with all drivers.

    And it is freaking annoying.
