<div class="IPBDescription">normal ns = ppl leave...</div> its starting to anger me that out of a server with 24 people on it, whenever a normal ns map come into rotation everyone skates...
i've played games where more than half of the people leave...
one fix would be to keep them separate, or in chunks of 3 or 4 apiece...

So, then, why I am I sticking to Combat right now? Practice. I'm still practicing with the lerk flight model, with paper fades, focus combat, hand grenades, making the best use of catalyst, etc... Heck, I'm resuming old practice with gl aiming and jetpacks, even. And until I feel like I've gotten enough practice out of it, or am just sick of Combat, I won't be playing more than the odd Classic game (only played 6 since 3.0 came out).
Give it some time, things <i>should</i> balance out.
P.S. Paper fades were definitely part of the problem, as to why people didn't want to play Classic.
Combat works when people aren't trying or are too stupid to try to win effectively.
If rines want to win: camp, its just that simple as rines with their projectile weapons can just find good vantage points and cover the entrances, heck even when they manage to break in and hit the cc, rines can weld it for experience. Once you have a good exp advantage, you could even HA train to their hive.
Aliens: Early game, as soon as you can, get focus, then cloaking. As a cloaked beast you will have first strike, and thats all you need, but just try to take down the rines before their higher techs own you.
Marines best chance is to win is camping, so much for excitement; Cloakfocus, gives early aliens a very unbalanced advantage, it's the lamest cheap trick in the book and it takes no skill to use, so much for using this as a training tool to up your skills.
People use imbalances in "classic" (read real/worthwhile) NS as an excuse to play combat, rummore has it one of the reasons they released the beta to the public was in hopes that they would play "classic" as the betatesters got excited over combat and "classic" NS didn't recieve nearly as enough attention, (hence why there is still quite a bit of balancing to do). This may or may not be true but nevertheless how are we going to get "classic" balanced if we don't play it?
combat is for quick-acting people who don't think they are ready for NS yet due to NS being all about tactics and not being able to pull a trigger fast or for old vets who want to polish the old gun/teeth <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
combat is fun but NS is more fun (all newbies please try NS!! It's the original and the best)
It works well, I've rarely seen my fellow marines camp effectively IN base(in the long ajoining hallways and elevator shafts is a different story). The windows to use Xeno come up pretty often, upgrades need to be grabbed, HMG's need to be reloaded, Fades and Onii need to be shot at, CC's need to be welded, armories need to be humped.

NS Combat != Quick Game
I have seen combat games be as long as medium 2.01 ns games (not that ns had medium games, they were either long or short, but you see what I mean).

the only thing that pisses me off about co, is people always vote for it on normal ns maps, say your in a game its been going for 30 - 40 mins, the **** hats that are losing vote for a co map, changes the map; waste of 30 - 40 mins.
Or they all F4... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think thats because Comabt is noo and everyone wants to play it and stuff
<!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> Will change soon, i hope <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I agree and disagree with many points people are saying here.
I think that me running out of base and constantly shooting, biting, attacking, dieing, pwning, really helps you're game, in the fact that you get tired of playing the same thing, and start to suck because you've been playing so long... it really does make you better being under such harsh conditions, and for that i think combat is OKAY (i love going 3v1 against me).
The main balance of NS 3.0 issues are coming from the fact that NS: Combat and NS: Classic are both trying to be molded together, and yes Classic is being played less, especially by the newer players. (earlier today, in a server of 20, 16 people left when Combat changed to NS, and 2 more left after that...)
Hopefully more attention is payed to NS Classic in the next few patches, as that is what's going to be used for tournaments and competitions, but other than that, I applaud the Dev Team for making a Combat type format to help break in the new players much better, and attracting many new players.
giv it time..and it will be balanced..i hope <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
any halflife thing is quake with better graphics, since the engine is a modified quake 2...
I play combat more because it is more balanced than classic at the moment.
"no, lets do the whole thing"
