Yay New Pc

So yeah during forum downtime I went out and bought myself pretty much a new PC. Mainly all the core components

Proc = Athlon XP 3200+
Mobo =Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2
Video Card = Gigacube Radeon 9600XT 256Mb
RAM = 768 Corsair DDR 400

Friends came over today and we worked on my processor for a bit and got it running at 2.2Ghz. Might keep fiddling with the multipliers later and see if I can get it around the 2.5 mark, but I doubt it would make much difference in performance.

Dear god I can run Halo in 1280x1048 with everything turned on high and not drop a frame.

Speaking of which I can play Halo on my TV now thanks to my wonderful mobo which supports dual monitors.

Add that to my already brand new case and I am LAN ready baby. Bring on Doom III and Half-life 2.

It is indeed a good day

Oh yeah. I can get a 3dMark03 score of around 3500. Which I am told is reasonably impressive.
Gonna have to see what I can get with the 01 version...

    nice Inf, but remember this:

    new computer: $$$
    only using 20% of your cpu power to watch anime: priceless

    there's some things money can buy. for everything else, there's BitTorrent.

    My Athlon XP 3000+ is running at 2.4

    Shouldn't be hard to get your 3200+ to run at 2.5

    You'll probably have a pretty hard time hitting 2.5 ghz (and making it stable) with that chip unless you have really good water cooling or something more extreme like phase change. The 2500, 2800, 3000 and 3200 are all the exact same chips, just different stock front side bus and multiplier settings. I have my 2500 running 2.3 ghz stable on air cooling, but I cant seem to go much higher without sacrificing stability.

    You can overclock that video card some too. I have a pretty similar setup to you (processor, gig of ram, radeon 9800pro 128mb) and I hit around 6300 in 3dmark03. You still have some untapped potential in that hardware of yours. But still a good machine you got there

    Scythe is Australian...

    Yeah I really gotta experiment with my rig a little more. I can't find a volt option in my bios anywhere to pump that little bit more extra out of it... and the multiplier option is physically located on the mobo. Fun.

    Currently running it at 200Mhz with an 11x multiplier. Probably not the wisest option. See if I can't whack it down to 166Mhz with a 14-15x multiplier and see how my system handles it. And there's no way in hell I'm trying the Water cooling option. Don't wanna risk it....

    I haven't even fiddled with my video card yet. Other than setting up some dual monitor action...

    May as well post it here...

    Currently I am having a slight problem with my PC.

    Window's seems to 'lag' for a second or so everytime a new program/window/etc is opened

    For example. I open up ICQ and it will start appearing in the taskbar, but the link in the bar is about a 1/6th of the size it normally is, you can't click it, etc and then a few seconds (A good 5-10 seconds) later it opens up fine.

    Using the exact same HDD I was using in my old rig, so it's not that...

    I'm thinking it's probably a virtual memory thing...

    Any thoughts people?

    My computer was watercooled for several months and I had zero problems. Even if water DID somehow leak, all you would have to do is dry out the components and they would be fine. That said, watercooling is heavy, therefore not LAN-friendly.

    If the water drips on to a capacitor or anything else important, manages to short it and make it dump early, thus frying a path on your chip...then water cooling wont be so friendly.

    (not a computer, but I had a TV under a bathroom, someone flushed and it was clogged and my TV fizzled out)
