Just Got The Game, Got Some Questions

Hey, I just downloaded the game and I don't really play online much, but I play lan games and direct connections with some friends all the time. I was wondering what I'm going to want (bots, mappacks ect) to be able to enjoy the game with a max of 4 people, usually only 2. I've done a little research and I think I need both Whichbot and RCbot? I don't really know what I'm doing and any help is appreciated. Also, does a human have to play the commander role? And if so what if there is no commander? Thanks for any help. PS: I don't have (or want) Steam.

    u don't necesarily need bots, and i think u only need one of the bot programs. some1 will have to be a commander to drop buildings, research, give weps etc. if there is none, nothing happens. in combat (co_ maps) there will be no comm but u must protect cc. when u kill enuf aliens right-click to select an upgrade for yourself. bots cannot command. with only 2-4 ppl, u might want bots. im pretty sure which bots can only be alien.

    If you want to play NS 3.0 you will have to get Steam eventually. That is the only way you can play combat mode. As far as bots go, I don't have any advice for you.

    whichbot makes good aliens, and rcbot makes mediocre marines.

    your best fight may be two humans versus four or five whichbots, BUT, its going to be nothing compared to real people playing...

    o m g do not get bots....... real people are the only way to get used to the communication needed to coordinate an attack

    also, go on LAN and go around maps so you have a general idea of where to go <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    IF on the other hand you have a slow, high latency or other crappy 'net connection, like me, whichbot will give you quite a contest for 3 or 4 players all marines vs whichbots on the alien side. Eventually you'll be able to beat whichbot but especially at first, whichbot skulks will rip you up.

    It's pretty easy to install and run the WB bots, a single command in the console will tell the bot to balance the teams or to add extra players to the aien side.

    RCBot for NS is improving, but still has a way to go.

    WB works for Combat now, which is where it really shines. the lerks work too, a WB flying is true eebilness...
