Volumetric means that the flamethrower would not be a "cone of fire" type of item.. Bitegun is a super short range gun, essentially.

Basically, it has to expand as it "lives", and take up space realistically (I.E., not clip around corners and crap) while doing damage all the same, not to mention the flames should also make aliens catch on fire, and whatnot.

As is, Flayra hasn't found a way to do this the way he wants (TFC flamethrowers are NEVER an option), and thus it will never be ingame, unless someone in the mod community can come up with a reliable way to do it.

Hmm....lets take this to a more simpler way....

You first have a 'weird' flask, which is an upside-down T shaped flask.Opening is at the top, bottom splits into 2.

Now if you fill it in with water, the water will fill in the whole flask, which proves that water is volumetric matter.

This is also the case with the Flamethrower. Flayra wants it so that it fills the vent with fire, and of course if there's a T-junction of some sorts, it would split and fill both sides

    Now if you understand this then well....good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Most real flame throwers throw out a burning stream of somewhat sticky fuel, they don't want it to burn much in mid air, it should burn as little as possible while in the air. It would not have to be volumetric to look real, I even think it would look silly if it was.

Take the TFC flame thrower, it is both ugly and unrealistic. Even if it was volumetric it would be ugly and unrealistic. A real flame thrower would easily reach across the entire outside area on 2fort and leave burning fuel that splashes on impact, slowly runs, drips and spreads out on just about any surface.

(yes yes I know, NS isn't supposed to be realistic. But it is supposed to be somewhat credible, like actually being able to hit an onos in the head or devour not having infinite vertical reach.)

I would just make a secondary fire on the welder

    *instant flamethrower*

I don't think real flamethrower flames turn around corners....
So the idea of volumetric is nonsense..

    oh and BTW:

Thanks, I really didn't remember what your flamethrower looked like from the last time you posted it in a flamethrower thread.

Have you guys ever seen Windtalkers? Remember the flamethrower that shot flames out like a watergun shoots water? It had a pretty good range on it as well. THAT'S a real flamethrower. FYI volumetric is unrealistic.

Firestorm's flamethrower is super duper and great in every way!

The question was answered. <span style='color:red'>***Locked.***</span>

On the topic of 'unrealistic', the whole idea behind volumentric flames is based on a gameplay standpoint, so please leave the real life out of this - we're discussing a feature to a game including self-teleporting aliens here.
