Squads range from 5-1 in stages, (I suppose,) 5 being the most elite, as you have mentioned.

There is no promotion as such. The commander just manages it himself. Dont get upset if you are put in squad one either; I reserver 4 and 5 for my armslab and obs.

    Yes. Buildings.

    Example.

Gorge gestates next to a built rt in a hive you are about to siege. You can scroll back to main base, select the obs, press A, and scan the rt hoping that the gorge egg will be siged in time,
    OR
    Press 5, press A, click.

Armslab lets you start the next upgrade when you see one being completed.

There is no so called rank system between the squad number. It's just something the players made up to cheer things up. In reality the squads are simply what it's in most RTS, you give some units a number so when you press that number you automaticlly selects those units.

Obervatory, the radar thingy. you need it to use Scanner Sweep, which is useful if you need to scan a hive for siege cannons. it also has Distress Beacon, Motion Tracking, and Phase Tech for a use.

Hehe... /me sees opening to shamelessly promote naff website.

    <a href='http://thv.fragism.com' target='_blank'>http://thv.fragism.com</a> (/articles.html)

No content yet, but will get some manuals up by the end of the weekend; they're about 25 pages of text so far. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

You can also search the forums for basic descriptions of the buidings. You really don't need to know what buiding goes where unless you are:

    a) The commander,
    b) Someone who likes to tell the commander where things should go. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    HTH.

    Btw, cl_autohelp 1 is correct.

Ok i guess that you have never been comm "Blue November"?
The com just selects a bumch of marines then binds them to a group.
Same as StarCraft or C&C. Group 1 is just different units to group 2.
They're not different ranks, just different numbers.

There are only 5 groups and yes us coms usually reserve group 4&5 For an arms lab and obs.
(Yes you can set a building to a group so u can select it faster)

    Hope your now well informed.

The best way to learn this game is to play it. <span style='color:red'>And sometimes ask to your team</span>. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->
