Wow, I just tried binding +attack to my mousewheel .... it sucked. I removed the bind, just because it sucked that bad.. It was obvious too, I would fire 3 round bursts, instead of a constant stream of bullets... How can you use something like that? I like my mouse wheel changing weapons as a gorge and stuff

everyone can find a server that suits them. I hope that servers make it plain that they have the anti-scripting enabled/disabled.
From the 3.0f changelog and this post you can read into it that the community is divided on scripts. Flayra has spoken to some degree now and told us there is no right/wrong answer to scripts it depends upon your mentality.

Guys why are you off-topic? This should be about to make the perfect config, not a flame fight, move to off-topic(flame topic) if you want to flame. For the config case, i recommend using an alien and a marine config. An exsample you dont need "reload" when you are aliens, you could make it a bind you use often, eg. build OC(Offence chamber).
So now you ask how do i make a config for each race? That's what i am going to explain.
First you need to make 2 files, one called Alien.cfg and one called Marine.cfg place them into your NS folder. Next you do is to setup how to change them, that <b>could</b> be done like this. <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> bind "F1" "jointeamone;exec marine.cfg;echo Marine config loaded." bind "F2" "jointeamtwo;exec alien.cfg;echo Alien config loaded." <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> place this in the configs you just made.(Alien.cfg and Marine.cfg)
Now explaining what the command does.
Bind is the command to bind a key to a command, eg. bind "x" "impulse 3" This would make you drop your current weapon (Marine's only) There would be no reason to have this bind for the Aliens.cfg so put it into the Marine.cfg
The next in the bind command is the key you want to bind eg. Bind "c" "+showscores" This command would make c show the scores, this is usally binded to tab by defult.
Now the next is the actully command it self, there are tons of commands to use.(a start to learn is to look at your config.cfg in your NS folder) eg. Bind "v" "impulse 100" would bind v to make your flashlight turn on/off.
This will bind F1 and F2 to change your config's. (If your F1 key makes a small yellow box open in the top window of the screen this means that you have to rename two .dll files in your valve folder. #Halflife-dir\valve\cl_dlls\ the files that isnt client.dll, rename them to something else(my is called 1 and 2, but you can also delete them)
Now jointeamone and jointeamtwo makes you join either Marines (one) or Aliens (two). But you could also make a bind for jointeamthree (spetectors)
The exec command orders halflife to execute the file writen after the exec command (in this case it is Aliens.cfg) The Alien.cfg thats where you customized all your alien only binds.
The echo command makes half-life echo this to the console. (this is just a confirmation)
I hope this helps alot, remember that half-life is case sentive sometimes. (i dont know excacly when?) -Diablo_FX
EDIT: For steam users (3.0bx) use NSP folder in your steam\steamaps\email\halflife\nsp <span style='color:red'>Warning!</span> not all servers alow exec command.

etc. = _special bhop script.
Those are the only 2 bad scripts... you can remove them by blocking _special. Leave the rest of the scripts in imo. they don't hurt anyone.
"O Added anti-scripting code (activated when mp_blockscripts is 1). When
enabled, it blocks any command with wait, _special, exec or a ; in it. This is
off by default."
everyone can find a server that suits them. I hope that servers make it plain that they have the anti-scripting enabled/disabled.
From the 3.0f changelog and this post you can read into it that the community is divided on scripts. Flayra has spoken to some degree now and told us there is no right/wrong answer to scripts it depends upon your mentality.

Whatever your opinion on scripting, I have to say that this thread has caused me to evaluate my keyboard set up. For which I give my thanks to Forlorn and a Civ amongst a few others.

This should be required for all servers. Oh well, I hope my favorite server turns it on.
hud_fastswitch "1"
bind "MWHEELDOWN" "enter command"
bind "MWHEELUP" "enter command"
bind "MOUSE1" "enter comman"
bind "MOUSE2" "enter comman"
etc.
but I'm no script monkez
Me and civ are different people.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
bind "F1" "jointeamone;exec marine.cfg;echo Marine config loaded."
bind "F2" "jointeamtwo;exec alien.cfg;echo Alien config loaded."
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
place this in the configs you just made.(Alien.cfg and Marine.cfg)
Now explaining what the command does.
Bind is the command to bind a key to a command, eg. bind "x" "impulse 3"
This would make you drop your current weapon (Marine's only)
There would be no reason to have this bind for the Aliens.cfg so put it into the Marine.cfg
The next in the bind command is the key you want to bind eg. Bind "c" "+showscores"
This command would make c show the scores, this is usally binded to tab by defult.
Now the next is the actully command it self, there are tons of commands to use.(a start to learn is to look at your config.cfg in your NS folder)
eg. Bind "v" "impulse 100" would bind v to make your flashlight turn on/off.
Now lets look at the config changer bind again.
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
bind "F1" "jointeamone;exec marine.cfg;echo Marine config loaded."
bind "F2" "jointeamtwo;exec alien.cfg;echo Alien config loaded."
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The exec command orders halflife to execute the file writen after the exec command (in this case it is Aliens.cfg)
The Alien.cfg thats where you customized all your alien only binds.
The echo command makes half-life echo this to the console. (this is just a confirmation)
I hope this helps alot, remember that half-life is case sentive sometimes. (i dont know excacly when?)

EDIT: For steam users (3.0bx) use NSP folder in your steam\steamaps\email\halflife\nsp
