    same as this name... you can ask the regs at freaks unleashed... and possibly Lunixmonster (don't know if they know me too well there). Those are really the only servers i play on (I live in the middle of nowhere and those are usually the only ones that show up with pings less than 100.

    By the same token, I'd hardly say that I'm a god at NS like some are, but then I don't play the game nearly as much as others. I tend to play FFXI more often than not. Nevertheless, I'm hardly a poor player. If you disagree... well that's your prerogative.

    Ok guys, most of us non-scripters are perfectly fine with your scripting that allows you to build/evolve into a different lifeform, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAKING YOU A BETTER FIGHTER. (unless you want to argue that that person who scripts saved 1/2 a second because he pushed a button rather than going to the pop-up menu). I agree with whoever said that it's just hotkeys just like a commander had, you have every right to do this, a commander has it so why shouldn't aliens?

    However, you cannot tell me that scripting during a battle doesn't make you any better of a fighter. The only ones i've seen that don't agree with this is 90% of the veteran community. Your job as a vet isn't to use scripts, you're here to set an example to everyone else, why do you think we call you a veteran? Haven't you ever had a job before? When you become a veteran, you have to set an example, setting an example doesn't involve using scripts for battles, it involves using your natural skills that you learned while playing the game. It means that you have played the game long enough that you know the right angles and times to attack a person of the opposite team. I have seen very few examples of a veteran player that actually acts as a role model instead of a script freak who wants to indirectly exploit the game.

    You guys should just come out and admit that you want to be the best player out there or on the server, just so you can have the fame of it all. But the rest of us really don't care because we know it wasn't your natural skill that got you there.

    You better start learning how to change your stragtegy to compensate for no scripts, because i can't see any gamemaker (including Flayra) to go on the side of the minority (veterans/scripters).

    And forlorn, there is no difference from leap / bite BIND (its not a fking script as ppl wrongly accuse it - its a BIND), and the doing it manually, however, doing this makes it easier to change weps for places where keys are restricted and lastinv and nextinv cant be bound separatly / weapons are selected a different way.

    granted... it can technically be "bound" to a key, but when people say scripting they are meaning anything that requires you to open notepad or the console to do. Furthermore, most people that aren't interested in the techincalities refer to bindings as something you can only do in the controls menu. Since you can't bind the leap/bite in the controls menu, to most this means you can't "bind" it. Furthermore, the technical definition of a script (I'm a programmer so I should know) is simply a set of commands that are issued to perform a function. This means if you have your "bind" set to more than a single action then it is still referred to as a script and last time i checked you couldn't do a leap/bite with a single command.

    so yes it IS a script... and by layman's definition it isn't even a legitimate "bind." Now I could talk semantics with you all day long and never end up with a headache so I'd advise not making such blatantly wrong statements unless you have some form of evidence/explanation to back it up.

    I know this because I've tried them, and I personally think it sucks big time. I am a decent fade, and I think the fastest way to get killed would be to use one of these scripts, as I don't always just want to blink then swipe all the time, I may just want to keep blinking while changing my direction, and lots of other small things that could save my life as a fade. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    This is how movement and attack scripts usually are. Sure they might give you chance to do things fast and with precision, but they rarely have any flexibility and are therefore inferior to a skilled player doing the same thing. I've done all sorts of Quake 2 and HL scripts over the years and can claim to be somewhat knowledgeable about them, I have to be given my unusual controls. I try to keep away of all sorts of elaborate scripts unless I have to use them due lack of keys or similar reason or unless they are communication scripts. Complex stuff just gets in the way. I think the most complicated non-communication script I ever had was a sniper sensitivity/unzoom script for Action Quake 2.

    The point of scripts for me is comfort, not gaining advantage. I don't currently have a duck toggle script, but it's a good example. Having toggleable crouching is more comfortable than having to hold down duck key when camping in some dark corners for long periods of time. There might be some advantage in this, but I don't much care. I do admit that that I have used a leap/lastinv script, but this is mainly because I had an awfully lonely looking mouse button in my alien config. Once in DoD I made an alias that jammed +forward on for those boring long walks back to front after you die, that's how lazy I am.

    Sure there are some scripts that go too far, automissile script in Tribes 2 or those anti recoil scripts come in mind, but vast majority of them are OK.

    Scripts will stay in the game no matter what you say/think. If fact they even work better in 3.0 that they did in 2.xx (they fixed what ppl were calling the "anti-scripting feature", wich is not). Even if for some obscure reason they decide to remove parts of the scripting system, you'll start to see ppl using l33t mouses/proggies to still have the same effect.

    I use a script to leap and i'm not afraid to say it here.

    Why? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Cause it makes sense. Alien abilities are not weapons, they are natural weapons. When u slap someone with your right hand, you dont have to "select" your left hand to slap him again. Aliens dont have a backpack or a holdster where they have to find their stuff, they attack with their actual body. For example, in avp2, you have a pounce key. You press that single key, and you "pounce" (leap) forward then attack without messing with other keys (you don't have to select your melee attack back). It's built into the game so no one is complaining.

    A leap "script" is just doing the same, but some close-minded people think "scripts = h4x!!" so they prefer to whine about it, even if it's a built-in feature of Half-Life too. Some call that exploiting, some even consider it like "cheats" and this really make me laugh. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Does it gives an advantage? Yes. You have bite selected, you see a marine, you press your leap key, bite him once, and leap away. Keys pressed: 3, instead of 6 keys (slot3,+attack,slot1,+attack,slot3,+attack). Using less keys on keyboard too.

    Does it gives an UNFAIR advantage? No. Cause everyone can do it, it's built into Half-Life itself.

    Does i want to share it with others? Anytime, but it should only take you 5 mins to figure it out by watching examples, or do a quick copy/paste (search the forums). In my opinion scripts should be included with NS directly, maybe then the whining will stop. If i post it here directly it will probably be edited by a mod (they are humans too and have their opinions on scripting as well, after all).

    Does it requires an external program? Yes. Notepad. Omg h4x <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> It's just the way HL is working, get over it.

    Well now that you mention it, that blink/swipe script looks pretty leet. I saw this one guy, not going to say name, literally kill like 8 LA's in MS with it.

    <b>The thing is most people dont know HOW to script things like this</b>, and will be fumbling around with weapon changes while you just press 1 button, this is an unfair advantage, but not a major one. Still it unless it is all-out banned then people are free to use them. I just don't like it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    EDIT: Bit in bold is what this thread is all about, so we should stop 'debating' and post up / explain some useful scripts...

    You're right. Let's stay on topic. Just had to clear some things out. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Here is a "message cycler"; not so useful (mainly used to taunt <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) but it should help some ppl to understand scripting.

    alias dis1 "say Example message 1; bind KEY dis2"
    alias dis2 "say Example message 2; bind KEY dis3"
    alias dis3 "say Example message 3; bind KEY dis4"
    alias dis4 "say Example message 4; bind KEY dis5"
    alias dis5 "say Example message 5; bind KEY dis6"
    alias dis6 "say Example message 6; bind KEY dis7"
    alias dis7 "say Example message 7; bind KEY dis8"
    alias dis8 "say Example message 8; bind KEY dis9"
    alias dis9 "say Example message 9; bind KEY dis1"
    bind KEY dis1

    Where KEY is the key you want to use for the script (replace all KEY entries in the script with yours) and "Message example #" can be replaced with whatever you want.

    It will cycle between messages 1 to 9, then return to message 1, all using only one key on your keyboard.

    Let's try to make it (a little) more useful; a medpack request script with cycling messages so the commander doesnt become bored <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ;

    alias dis1 "impulse 10;say_team Hey, i need a medpack!; bind KEY dis2"
    alias dis2 "impulse 10;say_team Medpack please; bind KEY dis3"
    alias dis3 "impulse 10;say_team Commander, i need a medpack; bind KEY dis4"
    alias dis4 "impulse 10;say_team Comm, dont let me die; bind KEY dis5"
    alias dis5 "impulse 10;say_team MEDPACK!; bind KEY dis6"
    alias dis6 "impulse 10;say_team PLEASE; bind KEY dis7"
    alias dis7 "impulse 10;say_team I NEED A MEDPACK NOW!; bind KEY dis8"
    alias dis8 "impulse 10;say_team GIMME A MEDPACK!; bind KEY dis9"
    alias dis9 "impulse 10;say_team MEDPACK NOW OR I VOTE YOU OUT!; bind KEY dis1"
    bind KEY dis1

    Again, replace all "KEY" entries to the key you want. Notice i added some "impulse 10", this is simply the console command for the "ask medpack" voice. I also replaced the "say" command with "say_team" so it doesnt spam the entire server.

    Have fun scripting <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->
