<div class="IPBDescription">Marine vs Marine, Alien vs Alien</div> I remember when NS came out how that was thrown around quite a bit, and the developers said that it would be an eventuality.

With NS Combat coming out, I can't help but wonder if that idea is still ongoing, or not.

I can’t see it being much fun. A large part of NS’ appeal is the completely different teams, and tactics that entails.

The issue I bring up every time this is mentioned: how do you tell one team from the other easily? In games like CS, they simply have completely different skins, but in an NS atmosphere, that gives one team an advantage in being able to hide (because of the darker colors). Also, different-colored structures probably wouldn't look so different, and that could cause problems. For alien vs. alien, imagine two fades fighting, or one onos devouring another onos. It is just so ridiculous that, although it is "balanced" because the two teams are identical, it isn't much of a game.

well the m vs m would probably lead to turret-farming because the turrets aim is quite good at slow moving targets like the marines...
ns is probably best with two different teams with different abillitys.

<span style='color:orange'>Now</span>, I may be a little confused on when this topic was started, but I remember starting a topic EXACTLY like this 8 months ago. Futhermore, in a matter of 3 days my topic had turned into a neighbourhood BARBEQUE! I was getting flammed by everything from lighters to flame throwers and my charcoiled post was garnished with a webbing and shunned. Well, I hate to be the "But Johnny did it too!" kid but... what the HELL!? I even recognize some of the flamers posting in this topic! meh, i posted something like this in the I&S forums, and it got no flames, but was immediately pushed back into the no-reply zone

personally i think this'd be good, and heck 2 marine teams and 2 aliens teams in a 4 way FFA would be mad, but my guess is, that you'd have to do this in combat, as youd be straining the resources a LOT if you tried to make 4 team NS <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

but Marine vs Marine and Alien v ALien would be alright, i mean the maps would have to have a lot of res, you'd have to make some new models and change some coding

When you are viewing a section of the forum (such as General Discussion), and not viewing a thread, there is a search bar at the bottom of the page.

MvM and AvA are still planned additions. They aren't going to be showing up in 3.0, but <i>may</i> happen in 4.0. These modes have been slated for a very long time, and will be going in, despite arguments about how much they'd suck, or be like other mods, or whatnot. The dev team will find a way.

As for the search function not working, so far ONLY IE USERS have had that problem. Same with a number of 'page not found' errors. Mozilla works <b>perfectly</b> on the forums, so it's your browser screwing up, not the boards.
Remember. IE does NOT follow the standards they claim that they do. That's why IE users are suceptible to the 'JPG viruses'... which are nothing more than an XML document that is labelled as a .jpg file. It inlines a virus, and since IE doesn't pay attention to the filetype (it guesses EVERY TIME) it sees that it's an XML and runs the virus. Heck, it could be any type of document. Just the script kiddiots only have an example of one done as a .JPG and don't have the brainpower to adapt it to other filetypes.
Moz users just get a 'the image had errors and could not be displayed' when they look at one of these. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

What do you mean you can't do it? It imports your favorites for you. The tabbed browsing is really nice. I didn't think I would use it when I got Mozilla (Firebird), but I use it all the time now. The only problem is that it doesn't copy the cookies, so you have to remember your password for accounts (such as this forum) to sign in. I thought about trying to copy the cookies from the IE folder to the Firebird folder, but I couldn't find the Firebird Cookies folder (using Windows search and just looking through the folders).

Woo, go internet explorer provided by road runner.

Well, this topics gone off topic. But the alien v alien would be easy to tell apart. There would just be twice as many models in the game than usual. It would make for a large file, and probably by then NS (i'm guessing here) would go retail just becase of the filesize and bandwidth. Also because of the increased difficulty of balancing all the units to match all three modes perfectally.

So I'm guessing that we wont see it in retail. Combats a **** to balance with classic as it is.

if you did it properly you'd probably get 50 megs extra max, and probably a seperate download :\

coz you only need new maps, new models and a little tweak of the code here and there
  • pantspants Join Date: 2002-12-20 Member: 11188Members
you can get the game to load different skins on the same models, which would only increase the filesize of each model by about 100kb.
