    I miss bite for lerk but i dont really want to replace spikes with bite

    I prefer spikes over bite (infact, weaponwise I think the 1.04 lerk was best) I like to use the spikes to distract, and if done right it can be used to confuse a player into thinking there is an OC near by

    Depends. With the new flight system, I would have to say that Bite is the better choice, however with the old one, it would be much easier to aim the spikes, so I would have to go for that.

    since you're asking for the opinions of others, i'll tell what i'd like even more than spikes OR bite:

    I like both. Spike was a long distance weapon, which aliens don't have many of. However, with the new Lerk flight system, it appears that being able to fly up to a marine and bite them AND get away won't be as difficult as it was 2.0. Both are good, but only get optimal results for the flight type they are running. Personally, I believe bite will be more effective considering how much damage it dishes out.

    I like... spikes. And bite. And spores. And umbra. And primal scream. Heck, I like flapping up and blocking jetpackers just long enough for them to miss the ledge.

    Guess you could say I'm a sucker for birdies.

    Bite was better for 1.04 but with the different flying system I prefer spikes.

    Bite. Lerks are vicious with bite.

    I like well behaved people that don't need to be p***ing on other people's parades to boost their egos. Know any?

    Now, a lerk without one of the two is a poor lerk. But seeing as aliens are generally low on ranged weapons, I'd say that spikes should be kept rather than bite if I had to choose. I'd rather keep both, of course.

    Well...only effective ranged weapon now will be the acid rocket for the khaara. That's it. I don't like it at all, specially when it's extremely hard to play in a stealthy manner as khaara. So yeah, I'd say that spikes should remain, however if stealth and silence was to be improved somehow or the marine MT nerfed a bit, then sure..bite.

    Lerk loadout:
    hive 0 -- spike
    hive 1 -- bite AND spore
    hive 2 -- umbra
    hive 3 -- primal

    Problem solved <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Edit: Which is which when it comes to hive 0/1 doesn't really matter e.g. spike AND bite @ hive 0 would be just as plausible, and may make more sense.

    I'd rather keep both (spikes for long range and **** marines off. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> And bite for structures.) But I'm going with spike because you can do a fly by with bite and getting up close and personal with a marine as a lerk is the last thing that should be on your mind. *Thinks of Shotties, HMG's, and Lvl 3 Weps, shudders*

    Lerk Bite was in back in 1.x.

    So unless the damage is wildly changed, yes, we can judge.

    Depends what you're trying to do with the lerk. There are times that bite works great, but for attacking any sort of outpost/building, spikes were better since you could do it from a distance. Jetpacks are hard either way.

    Well didn't the 1.x Lerk Bite do 2 times as much damage as the skulk did? In any case Lerk Bite r0x0red the HA b0x0rz! ^^

    In my opinion, the ideal <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo--> would be;

    0 hive : bite (so its "focusable")
    1 hive : spikes (not at hive 0, so it cant be used as an alien shotgun/sniper rifle with focus. Another reason i would like to see spikes back is for the sake of the original lerk concept and model)
    2 hives : umbra (support, reward aliens if they manage to get a 2nd hive up and use teamwork)
    3 hives : spores (good against jetpackers. Endgame psychological weapon <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (all marines hate it). If they get heavies.. well use umbra)
    and get rid of primal scream (rarely used, doesnt fit the little birdy so much..)

    Basically a 1.xx lerk that can shoot umbra at a distance.

    About the flight system i dont know, i currently miss the old one, but i also like the new system in some ways. Both have their advantages and flaws.

    I like the new one to fly around without relying on hitting walls to take tight turns, and to dive on marines to bite them. And if you want to loose altitude you dont have to wait to fall with the gravity like with the old flight system.

    I like the old one cause you can strafe when you fly, while you still face the marines and spike them to death (but currently spike is gone in 3.0 sooo...). I also like the old one cause you dont have to look at the ceiling to take some serious altitude and you dont have to "flap" so much (but i guess they gonna tweak that).

    Oh, i went a little off topic with the flying, sorry. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Disclaimer: this is *my* view of how the lerk should be, and this isnt my game so ill live with whatever they give us in the end. <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'd prefer spike. The only thing that made 1.04 bite a decent weapon was that umbra was so effective. You could fly into a group of marines, umbra(didn't need to aim, as it just spewed out from your body), then start chomping away while they shoot, barely injuring you.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Well didn't the 1.x Lerk Bite do 2 times as much damage as the skulk did? Actually the old lerk bite did as much damage(75) as the skulk's, though it was documented as 50 damage.

    Anyways, the 3.0 lerk seems more like a flying skulk that farts rather than the ranged support unit it is now.

    I prefer spikes so, so much.

    Bite that replaces spikes........now that's a way to make the Lerk truly worthless (well only worth 30 res, wich get potentially wasted everytime you attack)

    I just made that guess because while biting an RT in 1.x I noticed 2 bars go down instead of one, or was that the obs, who knows, I liked the sound and the mouth graphics anyways. ^;..;^ RaWr!~!~!~!

    Spikes

    the role of the lerk was long range support (umbra, spores, spikes). We already have a alien that is betetr at biting (skulk) don't need another 1 imo. Its the only change in NS 3.0 that i THINK i will dislike

    It's generally too early to state which is better. Because hey, the only way we could get our hands on to 3.0 is through vet/const status.

    @ Rage against the Pepsi machine : You also forgot that lerk flight is much more manouverable with the new flight system, making bite midair MUCH more easier than back in 1.0x No longer will flying and biting be a skilled feat. It will be a technique that should be learned by all to survive encounters.

    And again : Don't judge things too early. It will just spoil what you want to learn in the game. Especially if you will keep believing that lerk-bite is useless. Keep that mindset, then lerk-bite <b>will</b> suck...for you <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I guess it's a psychological factor on your opinions wether you will like the new lerk <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As for me....I'm gonna try and find a way to get const status.....so right now I'm saving <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The lerk is more maneouverable, but the bite does much less damage. You need 4 bites to kill a jetpack marine that has armor 1 upgrade. And its quite difficult to learn to tail a jetpacking marine, especially when he zooms around your hive dropping nades with abandon.

    Well perconally I like bite, stronger and much more effective.
    Any way dont you miss 1.04 when you had both <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
