When server changes maps...
I'm quite sure that this is a Steam-related issue, but I couldn't find any mention of this problem in the stickied thread (Explicit Instructions On How To Play Ns In Steam), so I'll ask it here.
Everytime the server I'm on changes maps, NS freezes and I'm forced to Ctrl-Alt-Del my way out. This problem is rather tiresome, so I would like some suggestions.
Please note that this problem appeared after I switched to Steam. Also, I installed a new TurtleBeach Santa Cruz sound card around the same time. These are the only 2 major significant hardware changes I've made recently, and NS worked fine beforehand.
I suffered from most of the other typical Steam symptoms, such as the "Reliable Channel Overflow" error, max_errordistance, etc. For the record, I still haven't fixed the fonts for my radial menus either. I welcome help there as well, since I'm too lazy to look it up myself.
Specs:
- 2.4 Ghz Dell Dimension 8200
- Santa Cruz sound card (TurtleBeach); Geforce 4 Ti4600 (Nvidia); 512 Mbs of Ram
- Windoze XP Pro
- 1024 * 768 Normal mode (OpenGL); Color Quality: 32-bit
- NS Client freezes during server map changes. Only able to exit by force quit. Note that sounds, such as voice chatter, loop when it freezes.
- EAX off, of course.
- Running under HL client (CS retail also installed on this machine, however. Perhaps removing it may help?)
As always, optimization tips also welcome. :D
Thank you.

you can find it in the open beta forum
Try to delete the ClientRegistry.blob in the Steam folder and restart Steam, it should re-update your Steam files then.
If that does not work, uninstall Steam, delete the Steam folder, and make a fresh installation of Steam. Also make sure that you use the NS 2.0 Steam Beta, not the normal WON files just copied in the HL folder.
There will still be casual Natural-Selection crashes, but those are caused by NS since it is not fully compatible to Steam yet, but it will be once 3.0 comes out.
Edit: Also, if I quit playing NS until 3.0 comes out, I'll have a beard longer than Saddam's.
That is not for me to answer because I don't know too.
But it DOES have something to do with the drivers. You can take a look for yourself when you check the details.
But of course, there's a minor fix though.....use D3D
My suggestion:
format c:
No, this is a KNOWN BUG. Some people get lucky with reinstalls/reformats but often enugh it still persists (RaVe has it down, he has given the known explenation for it)
Nosferatu:
stop being anoying.
Demanding things of us (especialy things that we can't do) just makes us not want to help you out, so please be more considerate and tactful when trying to get help.
