<div class="IPBDescription">Anybody have some PHP webspace I can use</div> I'm going to be teaching myself some PHP and learning how to do some cool scripts and such and wanted to know if any forum goers might like to offer me some space to use while I'm learning? I don't need a lot. Maybe just a few mbs and I shouldn't use much bandwidth at all since it'll just be for personal stuff.

Edit: Or at least point me to somewhere I can get some space for the low, low price of FREE. Hey, I'm just a poor college student. With no easy way to pay for webspace.

You in North America? If so, go <a href='http://www.1and1.com' target='_blank'>here</a> and get your free 3 year account. Yes, it's for real, I use it myself. Yes, it supports PHP and all that fun stuff.

If not, I could set you up with an account there.

You know, you can just run it on your own computer for testing. Set up your computer as a webserver, and you can visit yourself at 128.0.0.1 (I think that's right).

Or it might be easiest to break out that ancient x86 box you're hiding in your garage, and use it as a webserver for your home network. No big loss if you break something then.

KungFuDiscoMonkey: Yeah, as others have said you can install Apache on your own machine and set it up to run PHP scripts, that'll be a lot faster and you'll save on bandwidth. I highly suggest you get a book and read that, don't just go off internet tutorials...

Comprox: Whoa. This offer just seems to good to be true, and you know how those are. But the company certainly seems legit. Which is odd. They even aren't like "OLOL <b><u>UNLIMITED</u></b> bandwidth" like most hosts claim (which we all know is bs). Also, the offering of SSH, MySQL, and PHP is hard to resist...

What's the catch? They spammers? Hidden fees? Do you even need to give them a credit card to get set up for 3 years?

the catch is you have to be US/Canadian =P

If you found a set of decent tutorial sites do you really need a book? I mean I did a class on html/javascript but self-taught myself all of it before the class even reached the point with a few select tutorial locations ^^
    Mind you... php's probably a lot more complex than those 2 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

PHP is quite possible to learn through web tutorials. That's how I learned PHP anyway. If you want a more structured way of learning PHP though, go for a book. It also might teach you good PHP conventions early on. I only found out about it being a Good Thing to put single quotes around your named arrays after I had a bit of PHP experience.

DOOM, if you read my post, I use it myself. You signup, they call you (which must be a Canadian or American phone number), some digital voice says some pasword to you, you write it down, login and are good to go.

No spam email, no credit card needed, good free tech support, yah, it's low bandwidth and such but it works. I tied mine to <a href='http://www.kreation.org' target='_blank'>http://www.kreation.org</a> see, you can click it! Right now Im just using for storage and hosting a forum for my friends to organize our life and such. Works wonderfully.

And like I said, if someone out there wants an account, I can easily get a few more using my friends and work and such as phone numbers. What happens after the three years?
You may seamlessly switch to any hosting plan ranging from $5 to $29 a month. Or you decide to go for the full power of a Dedicated Server starting as low as $69 a month. Of course, you may do so anytime within the 3 years period.

Does this mean you cannot cancel??

    I'm with OneAndOne . UK

Its pretty cheap + good, the only problem is the lack of custom FTP accounts

So if you want to run a FTP server, use another host

My employers use the German and UK 1&1 servers, and they have nothing but praise for them.

Gem: 1&1 have servers and operations in the UK, but theyre only offering free space to people in America on american servers (theyre trying to expand into the american market, using the offer of free servers to get themselves known.

    KungFuDiscoMonkey,
A most excellent PHP/MySQL tutorial if you are interested. This is how I got started and have now created several e-commerce websites for clients.

    <a href='http://www.mysql.com/articles/ddws/index.html' target='_blank'>Building a Database-Driven Web Site Using PHP and MySQL</a>

    I hope you enjoy.

BTW - If anyone is interested, I use <a href='http://www.iquesthosting.com/' target='_blank'>IQuest Hosting</a> for my web hosting. You can resell their packages at half-price and charge full price to actually start making a profit. VERY GOOD SERVICE!!!

  • zebFishzebFish Join Date: 2003-08-15 Member: 19760Members
You could get a Tokelou website

    <a href='http://www.dot.tk/vc00100.html' target='_blank'>http://www.dot.tk/vc00100.html</a>

And link that to your site

Hm... I just host my own website when I need to experiment and learn. It's alot quicker and easier once you've set it up.
