Best Game Music?

I'd have to say Homeworld and Homeworld 2 is the undisputed king of ingame music. It brings you into the world, it fits every sequence, every event perfectly, turning the game into a musical dance of death in space. The BEST is probably the launch of the Mothership in Homeworld 1... if you've never seen it, you don't know what you're missing (Aside from crappy low-poly models)

I'm not agreeing with you on this, but i must admit that HW 2 does have some very good music! Love the one on the final mission with Sajuuk during the cinimatic.

    EDIT

Alomst forgot to add this comment, GOT TO LOVE SAJUUK SO MUCH RAW POWER. At a balanced level!

Homeworld 1 had very nice music; the last mission's change of music when a certain event happens (which will not be mentioned here for spoiler reasons) really helps bring out the whole "the calvary has arrived!" feeling of it. But I personally prefer the game soundtracks for Freedom Fighters and the Hitman series, both done by Jesper Kyd. It's the sort of really great opera/choral music that makes you really want to put it into your car's stereo system to turn heads -- especially those of the local gangster-wannabe teenangsters with their souped-up used cars from the 1980s.

Planescape: Torment had great music that really fit with the game's tone. The credits music just ruled.

Well, allow me to be the first to step in and nominate the Final Fantasy series as having the best music.

Homeworld had incredible music, but it is totally blown out of the water by the scale of the music throughout the Final Fantasy series. Especially FFVII and tactics, absolutely amazing - squaresoft went ape about the music in their games, and it shows. There were some sweet little tunes in their earlier games too that had me whistling... nothing else comes close!

I enjoyed the background music in outcast too, they used a full russian orchestra throughout which was very impressive - pity the game sucked big tho.

And lemmings on the amiga! that was genius. wooo!!

Umm... Final Fantasy was good when I was like 10, but now I want something sounding more serious (One Winged Angel and the Shin Ra theme still do it ). I'm gonna have to say True Crime: Streets of LA has the best music in any game, because of the huge rap selection. For actual in-game music, I'd say Hitman 2 has the most stylish tracks, MechWarrior 4 has the best for pure action, and... I've only heard a bit of the HomeWorld 2 music from the demo, but what I did hear was quite amazing. Halo is decent all-around music for fast paced and slower more contemplative situations (but it was how they implemented the soundtrack in the game that made it so good). I can't really decide which of those has the BEST overall.

I liked the music in Outcast, good game, not as well known as it should be however.

    Super Metroid.

Also, I think I'm the only one who actually liked the MGS1 soundtrack better than MGS2. Don't get me wrong, the MGS2 soundtrack pwns, but not as much pwn as the MGS1 soundtrack. Plus w/ a lot of the MGS2 soundtrack it just sounds too.. Japanese.. Which, while I realize the game is made in Japan the setting and the characters are entirely American, and it just feels really out of place.

This is a good choice - I'd forgotten about its orchestral score.

It's very difficult to make a decision on this, but I think Imperium Galactica II and Haegemonia deserve a mention - very atmospheric ambient sci-fi business.

I usually don't choose my favorites for music, as theres just too much out there that I enjoy. Although I can name a few from the top of my head that I very much enjoy.

F-Zero GX definitely has some very very cool music that fits the game very nicely. Of course the Final Fantasy music is always great, and the stuff in Tactics Advance doesn't let you down. And one lesser known game for the original playstation called Threads of Fate had some very solid music that made the experience that much better.

I say Vietcong deserves a mention for all the great 60's music put in that game.
For example: In the first mission where you get to your camp in Nui Pek, you hear a cover of Jimi Hendrix' "Hey Joe". That made the game instantly cool for me, not to mention the songs playing on that little radio in your bunker, I caught myself staying in my bunker for the music!
I also came back to the game just to check out the music again.
That proves music adds replay value!!!

And of course, Homeworld I and II both have great music that sucks you inside the game, can't think of many other soundtracks, the Zelda: Ocarina of Time music was strangely nice too, despite the MIDI quality.

My most numerous game mp3s for one game goes to...

    Grim Fandango

    IT'S BIG BAND MUSIC, SUCKAS!!!

Honestly, how can you possibly go wrong with big band; it's energetic and STILL sounds cool even after all these years...

morrowind, (although I just replaced most of it with tracks from LOTR, Riven, and "The TIme Machine" sound track pieces jsut for a change.

I liked some of the more ambient pieces in the orgional HL and the guitar piece as cool too. Found in the open caynon level and when you start up the game.

Vietcong, for reasons some1 stated already.
I liked the theme song to Mafia too.

MDK1. Liked the action music there too.

Serious Sam: The 2nd Encounter:=== There is just something funny about running around a wintery village with snowmen armed with rocket launchers and everywhere endless spawing killing hordes of evil monsters comming at you to the tune of "Jingle Bells: on an electric guitar
