Sadly, it seems that when a mod/game grows to such greatness that it gets massive exposure, the lamer-gamers show up in droves. I've seen this happen with Desert Combat, another popular mod for Battlefield 1942. Initially it was something of a secret amongst the more intelligent, savvy BF gamers. Now that the mod has grown and changed, it is getting more publicity and has drawn a number of flamers and trolls to their "official" forums.
Thankfully the "unofficial" forums are still fairly free of griefers, but I'm getting beyond myself here.
Hopefully things will turn around for NS. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon. As cool as "NS: Combat" is, it is a gameplay type that will draw in even MORE "counter strike" players and those of their ilk. I think it's going to get a lot worse here before it gets any better <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
It simple, don't flame. Yes, I know the rule is already there, but mods should enforce it more, I know there aren't that much mods, so I already suggested Daza400 as mod. By enforcing the rule more and more, people will be scared to flame eachother, turning this place - hopefully - into a noob friendly forum.

somehow, i've lived through the personal attacks, the attacks on my team members, the attacks on my site, attacks about me "abusing" my powers... and i'll tell you why.
it's called respect... i respect alot of people, even the "n00bs" asking if there is a "leet model out there about ___"...
i look at the people that earned my respect... those that are the "best" modelers in my mind... and see how they react... i KNOW that these "n00bs" can be like them if we treat them like they deserve...
nobody deserves to be flamed. you don't, i don't, the n00b over there picking his nose doesn't. end of story

Maturity is not flaming even when the urge is practically irresistable. If someone needs disciplining, just hit the Report Post button and let a mod deal with it.
I've seen some of this board's "best" posters degenerate to flaming halfwits... and I've seen some guy with a DBZ-inspired nick and a postcount of 13 make a post with more eloquence and intelligence than your average college essay. <b>You</b> decide how the rest of the board will perceive you, with every post you make. A witty comeback might make someone laugh, but a reputation for intelligent discourse will be remembered long after everyone's tired of hearing about hovaring skorpians.

He obviously started the whole fight and then kept poking the gaping wound. Patience is great, but everyone runs out of it when people constantly be morons about it.

I know this part is hard, but we gotta do it. Just feel satisfied when the crap post slips to page 3 in 30 minutes. If the thread is needlessly bumped by the author for no reason, once again I think he should be punished.

This is what I do not understand. Sure Owen was in the wrong, but so we a lot of other people. 404 for example was clearly winding everyone up? Did he get punished? ...well, except for converting v_ models for other mods...but thats easy stuff.
