Savage 2.0 beta is out, and anyone can beta test it!, I think you'll need Savage 1.0 Retail to play it though.

If you don't know what Savage is and how it relates to NS, just ignore this thread.

No, the only time Savage 1.0 was free was when it was in it's beta stages--and just about anyone was able to test/play it from what I remember. You can play the Savage 1.0 Demo, but the Savage 2.0 patch doesn't work on the demo--many people have asked this question.

Savage 2.0 doesn't have that ability anymore, you have to have Savage 1.0 retail to play it.

Well, you'd have to play Savage to understand. That's why I said "If you don't know what Savage is and how it relates to NS, just ignore this thread."

Savage is another RTS/FPS hybrid. NS was first, but Savage started at the same time. Its virtually impossible that either party 'stole' the idea.

It is also radically different playing then NS, if you've ever played it.

I'm wondering what the Stats are on players compared to the 2 times it was out.

How many players they had when it was free v.s. how many players they have now it's gone retail.

How many of those free loaders actually bought the retail version and continued to play?

I read on the forums that there are more player on the free demo server than there are on the retail servers. Then I actually checked the servers and this is correct. There was, right now, 5 servers with active players on the retail version; and about 35 servers with active players on the DEMO--OUCH!

What does this say about it free v.s. retail?

The game makes the sale, nontheless; however, Tron2.0 is a VERY GOOD game, especially DeathMatch is just AWSOME, but there are like 5 players on the WHOLE server system in any given day--not a very well known game.

Half-Life is an old game, been out for 5 years, and sold thousands upon thousands of copies in many different forms (HL, HLplat, CS, DOD), making it easy and free for one to play NS and keeping the servers alive. Lot's of people here hate CS, but thanks to CS it has brought many of the players to NS--Counter Strike has over a thousand active players on their servers!--compared to 100 on HLDM (THE CREATOR). It's rare to find someone from HLDM or the new DOD retail.

So everyone here better not be cheap, and go out and buy NS2 once it hits the shelves!

I love NS, and would love to see it stay and grow into something large and forever lasting. NS is orginal, and fun! So go out and preorder your 2 copies today! .

I'll take 2 copies to go! One copy for myself and PC, and the other to show on my PC Gamer Shelves and to support the new Company. If we want great games like this to exist, and more to come, we have to support them as much as possible.

Savage was horrible. It literally called me a *** for not having an AGP video card.

Savage and NS both have their own merits; having not played Savage, I won't comment except to say that in spite of the two games' similarities, this thread belongs in Off-Topic.

I believe Savage 2.0 is a patch, not a Sequal.

Savage made it to the 10 Finalists in the http://www.indiegames.com/ competition. Check it out.

    Here are some Interesting Facts:

Developer: S2 Games (Rohnert Park, CA, United States)

    Category: Open

Description: Savage combines FPS and RTS gameplay into one cohesive experience. As commander you lead a team of real human players, while managing resources, developing a tech tree, organizing, and implementing strategy. As a warrior you personally battle in a primal struggle against extinction. It's Man against Beast, Technology versus Magic.

    URL: http://www.s2games.com

    Budget: Close to $1,000,000 – 1,500,000 (US).

Dev. Time: Roughly since 9/13/01. Approximately two years.

I tried playing the Demo once and found it to be kind of boring. Nothing really exciting happens because it seems like most games end before any good weapons come out. (the good weapons aren't even that good)

Also, I found that the engine was a little overrated. The grass and sky looked damn good but all of the models weren't good at all, players or weapons. Hopefully the 2.0 version will fix some of these issues and will convince me to buy the full game.
