They all told me it couldn't be done. That I'd have to see it for myself. Well its on now, I've got the coveted screenshots and I'm looking for answers !

Here we have Exibits #0 and #1. Now the court can clearly see the presence of "yellow circles" here, would the defendant please explain this for us:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next: Exibit #2 clearly displays the presence of white circles, presumably teammates of the defendant. Care to explain yourself Mr. Defendant?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here in Exibit #3 we see a curious blue circle seemingly visible to the defendant as a marine. Your mommy cant help you now Mr. Defendant, answer the question!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh Mr. Defendant, you've told some wild stories here today but this has got to take the cake. How do you explain the presence of the many different colours of circles that we see in Exibit #4?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Mr. Defendant, I don't envy you. Today we've revealed some damning evidence against you. Before I leave you at the mercy of this court, could you please tell me where you found such a newfangled device such as this laser when we are so focused on weapons of a projectile nature? Please refer to Exibit #5:

    1. That yellow circles are Tooltips/Hints

    2. see #4

    3. Motion-Tracker i think. It indicates a moving alien (a Onos in this case)

    4. Yellow : friendly Aliens
      White : parasited Marines
Red : "Scent of Fear" detected Marines

    5. A orbital laser, not usable i think but a nice effect made by the mapper, triggerable AFAIK.

Everyting is just my opinion and may be wrong/STC

Best to wait for the manual, i'm sure it will explain it all

0; first is a "usable" icon, the second is a "weldable" icon.

    1; "usable"

2; Hive mind, location of other alien players/buildings

    3; motion tracking

    4; Hive mind. White = alien player/building. Yellow = Marine/Marine building. Red = alien player/building under attack.

5; on Tanith there is a satellite you can weld to grant you access to a hive room via a back entrence

thats what I was explaining in your other thread.

Those screenshots tell you nothing. Sure, they look nice and all, but you have no (well, didnt) clue what each icon means.

It would have made more sence to explain the hive mind, rather then just show you pic #2 or 4.

First off, I reserved the right to say Subject to Change.

1.) Those are action-hints. The finger on button means that you can press the button. The sparks mean that you can weld that spot. In this case, there is a button there you must weld open to press.

2.) Yes those are my fellow aliens running around the map. If your crosshairs go over them, you'll be able to see where and who they are.

3.) That is a Lvl5 making a great deal of motion that is being reported by my motion tracker.

    4.) White- Hive/Alien pal
Yellow- Enemy (either parasited or being see by another alien)
Red- Alien or alien building under attack

5.) That is a TSA model 4 claymore mine. Usually they aren't very lethal, but they sure make the aliens think twice before going though! That or it's the orbital defense laser.

Ramses is close, but really incorrect on a few points, so I'll just reexplain it all :P

    1) on weldable brushes, buttons, breakables, and a few other things, there is a sprite on them to indicate that they are useable, wedlable, breakable. in your shot you can see a weldable next to a button for a door. in shot 1 is an elevator button :P

    2) taken from an alien player, the white dots are your fellow teammates. this is the hivesight thing everybody talks about.

    3) blue circle = marine motion tracking

    4) white circles = teammates
yellow = parasited marines OR marines that are currently in view of your teammates
red = stuff of yours under attack.
scent of fear is an orangish icon AFAIK, not pictured here.

    5) I'll just let you think about Ramses's answer ;)

    [edit]
damn silverfox for editing his post and hida for making an entirely new one while i took the time to type this out!
    [/edit]

    [edit2]
and damn silver for posting again after me spoiling the fun of #5!
    [/edit2]

Excellent, everything explained in triplicate. Now I'll just file this into court records and submit my affidavit for review.

Fix it so what don't overlap?
  • NecroNecro <insert non-birthday-related title here> Join Date: 2002-08-09 Member: 1118Members
the images, i mean the help hints look like they overlap and same with the death sprites D:
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
Well the help hints are in a 3D location, meaning that as you move they stay attached to a certain point within the level. If you were looking at both things that are shown there straight on, they'd look normal (meaning that those help sprites are for two things very close together in the level).

The death sprites... What do they overlap with? The hive icons? That'll be fixed.

No, it's motion tracking and a to cloak an alien has to stand still. Now awhile ago I heard the observatory could detect cloaked aliens...
