Do marine guns work well?

Do the marines have real firepower?
Hello,

I must admit the NS site is a bit spare on gun info, and I happen to like guns. I am sure the marines get tons of firepower. For example toss a bit of info my way about just one marine gun. You know some nice stats like clip size, and if it cuts up the aliens fast enough. I guess one main appeal of scifi games is being to blow apart butt ugly aliens with nice big guns.

regards,
etalian

Well theres the LMg 50 round clip nice and fun little on the light side kinda like a MP40 with a bigger clip from DOD (ill use dod cause i like dod and dod is cool you should play dod...) Wheras the HMG (or heavy machine gun)is re4ly l337 anyway its like a MG42 with more accuracy and a 100 round clip mean little bugger. The shotty is well a shotty and the grenade launcher seems nice too. Also theres the 12mm Semi auto handgun (self explanatory if you know guns) AND THE ALLMIGHTY WELDER THE MOST POWERFULL WEAPON IN THE GAME!!! /cough /grasp for air.
OR not it has it uses however.

OH yeah check out MonsEs Uber cool site : readyroom.org For more NS info.

No, they have that newfangled 'fake' fire power.

:-D

Each marine gun packs quite a punch. There are no 'Useless' weapons. Each pistol shot is equivlent to a HMG bullet.

The HMG actually has a 150 round clip, and the pistol a 10 round clip.

cyanide,

Just how many marine/human weapons will show up in version 1.0 of NS? I hope it has a good selection of guns. I guess you get to pick your gun, or the commander drops down some equipment for you to use.

I am glad to hear that every NS gun has a use, and one gun is not better than the others. I have also read front line reports about a certain gun being useless against a level 5 alien. Is this because a 5 has tons of health, or is there a armor model in which certain marine guns cann't get through the skin.

regards,

There are (I think, pretty sure) 7 wepons for the marines, LMG, HMG, Grenade Launcher(impact on player entity, else bounce), Welder, Knife, Pistol, and the almighty shotty. Also the Commander drops wepons, normal marines have no choice in their wepon except asking nicely.

The Lvl 5 has (I belive, probably off by a bit) 400 Hp and 200 armor base. Therefore it is very hard to kill, but if they have enuf hives to get there your probably already dead meat.

NS isn't really meant to be a weapon mod, so the weapon selection is much lower then most games today, as the game rely's on teamwork.

The current effective combat weapons are:

Pistol
Light Machine Gun
Shotgun
Heavy Machine Gun
Grenade Launcher

There are other weapons, but they are for support and not intended for damaging purposes, these include:

Knife
Welder
Mines

The mines are arguably a damaging weapon, but it is still a support and defensive item, not intended for offensive striking. The knife and welder can arguably be offensive, if you like to die alot, but they both prove efficient in destroying alien buildings, and webs (welder).

I was pretty sure I saw tripmines in a commander buildmenu screenshot. Are they regular old laser trips, or do they come equipped (or upgraded) with IFF systems?
• MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
Well, in normal games they have IFF, but I have absolutely no idea about Tournament (FF on) games.

I thought I read in the NDA lifted thread that the HMG had a 150 round mag. Did I misread?

uh.. how about the damages?? I remember reading the HMG does 23 damage per shot. If I'm not mistaken, the Skulk has 40 hit points. Does that mean 2 shots from the HMG kills a Skulk? Is it really inaccurate? Magh.
• Lord_FrodoLord_Frodo Join Date: 2002-09-26 Member: 1333Members
I read, either on the forums or in the FAQ on the site (not sure which), that the damage in NS is *roughly* equivocal to CS-type damage. Meaning if you're a skulk and you show your pansy little level 1 butt to a marine with an HMG, don't expect to last too long. that's one of the things about NS. You have to rely on tactics rather than brute force and taking a lot of shots... that's the level 5s job

Those numbers have definitely been tweaked a bit since the NSTR. Skulks now have 70 HP and 10 armor (30 if you evolve Carapace). I'm not sure of the exact value of damage per bullet for the HMG, but 23 seems like a good ballpark value. So maybe it's still a 4 or 5 bullet kill, but throw in spread, human inaccuracies, and the fact that the Skulk is generally running all over the place and it's not THAT bad. But still, not every marine will be totin' a HMG, so it's good that they should have an easy time trashing Skulks.

BTW, Longtooth, you DID NOT misread

You know the movie Starship troopers? (i know someones making a mod, but thats not the point) i was just thinkin..in the movie when they at the the alien slows down a little "absorbing" the blows...will that be implementet too?

actually..that was the question...lol!

almost forgot a list so you can see what else is im waiting for...some might be out so you can enjoy them while waiting (that means NO when will it be done posts&#33

1.Starship troopers HL mod (now known as Marine Infantry)
2.Gladiator HL mod
3.Warhammer 40K (2 of em...both im waiting for)
4.Roleplay HL (like Anarchy Online...with server hopping&#33
5.DragonModZ ver. 1,8...
thats most of em...but remember, these are only while waiting for NS..when NS is out...a lot of mods are gonna find one less member!...hehe...

BTW - no need to download my fishing game right now, the server's down for the 6'th time this week but im working on a new version and finding a new server!

lol, 12mm compared to 9mm, you can put holes through 3 bricks with that

You would actually be better off with the 9mm because it is slimmer and higher velocity and has a great chance of penetrating.
