-_- Skulk Needs No View-wep

rookie1rookie1 Join Date: 2003-12-26 Member: 24764Members
I have a problem. When I'm a skulk I find it hard to kill strafing marines.
This is because of
1) A skulk's blinding speed (not used to it)
2) THE JAWS BLOCK MY VISION

I often find that, after doing an initial pass, the jaws are in the way so I can't use my peripheral vision to relocate a marine, buying him enough time to empty the rest of the clip into me. I try to take more measured bites now (so as not to block my vision)

Is there a way of turning off the weapon model ala Quake2? If there is, can someone please help? thx

There was such a way, it was fixed in 2.0 (luckily). I don't have any problems biting now, you only need to get used to it. Continue playing and you'll get better. Btw, I see you are new here, welcome.

Tip : Don't hold your fire button. Only press when you make sure you're gonna land a hit.

EDIT : As for removing viewmodels....well, you can't since it is an exploit (you gain an advantage by being able to see unlike your teammates)

heh =) Thanks for the welcome

You'd think that a skulk's eyes were on the top of its head ey? So it could see while biting? :/

You need to be a lot more accurate than the alien in AVP... I guess it comes with practice but reflexes and timing aren't my strong points. I'll just stay Lerk and gas them out ^^ Cheers

I think you'll be better learning some of the skulk way, it is important.

Removing the v weapon isn't necessary, you might find some other v weapons which show more screen but afaik when biting the screen is ALWAYS covered.

Just imagine that the skulk is like a shark, in that a tough nictitating membrane flicks over the eyes when it bites. You will also note that sharks do not tend to bite spam.

It's in there for balance reasons. Two bites can kill a basic, non-upgraded marine. If you could always see while you do it, skulks would be too good to be free.

I've got nothing to add... that just caught me off guard.

They dont. Their first bite is usually a taster, then they go in for the second killing bite.

You have to bear in mind that due to shark anatomy they're not built for grabbing something and repeatedly biting it. They have to bite, and tear. Then go back for another.

Im not that great at skulk either, however remember that you don't have to be right on the enemy to bite them. Not quite sure how far the range is.

In the beginning of the game, it is better to pick your bites carefully, what I mean by this is make sure you're locked on to your target, and then chomp. It only takes two bites to kill a marine at the start of the game. Later on if you catch yourself in a situation where they have heavy armor, and you're low on resources, bite spam.

Not to mention that while fighting a marine, a good skulk can greatly increase his opportunity for solid bites if he remembers his little sticky ninja-feet and gets up on the walls and ceiling, the bipedal scum get all confused and then you bite them while they're getting their bearings. Headphones help too...sometimes it can be almost painfully obvious that someone is using regular speakers and doesn't have them in the best position.

    /edit
So far the new "focus" upgrade in 3.0 seems to really emphasise careful biting. Each level reduces attack speed but increases damage per strike. If you wanna know more, check the NS: C Screenshot thread or NS changelog in general forums (to the new ppl).

Anyways, best tip I can give to you to be a decent skulk is to use common sense, don't let your super-speed over-boost your ego, and if there's nothing apparently happening, creep your way towards any red hivesight icons.
