<div class="IPBDescription">Come one, come all, and bring your list</div> If you've been around for a while, you'll know I keep an ongoing annual list of games I'm anticipating for the next year. Some are 'duh, who isn't', but I try to find interesting stuff you may not have heard of as well. Being an NS dev and fan for years, I'm inclined more towards innovation, sci-fi, and weirdness than the average bear <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> . Anyhoo, here we go:

<b>Shadow Vault</b>
<a href='http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/shadowvault/screenindex.html' target='_blank'>http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/shadow...creenindex.html</a>

I can never get enough sci-fi turn-based RPG rampaging:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Bratislava-based Mayhem Studios is currently working on a strategic role-playing game named Shadow Vault. The game, which is currently without a publisher, is set in the year 1958, when humans from the future have traveled back through time to escape the end of the world. The time travelers' ambitions involve a lot more that just cheating death, though, and they arrive in the year 1958 along with a great army to wage war against their own ancestors.
Gameplay in Shadow Vault will be turn-based, and Mayhem Studios claims that the emphasis will be placed firmly on the player's ability to make strategic decisions. The game will consist of around 20 levels in total and will feature approximately 30 different characters and unit types. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>The Bard's Tale</b>
<a href='http://www.inxile-entertainment.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.inxile-entertainment.com/</a>

I confess, I was a junkie for this in the Apple IIe days, thanks to a neighbor. It seems the humor is still there, as you can see from the feature list alone...

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Features:
50% more funny
Uses more pixels than ever before
Spins the DVD at over 10,000 RPM!
Over $500 in value
Graphics so amazing you'll need a screen!
So powerful, it won't even run on the PlayStation 1
Explode millions of barrels<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>Painkiller</b>
<a href='http://www.painkillergame.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.painkillergame.com/</a>

Oh hell yeah. Quake and Doom redone for the modern world; lotsa monsters, lotsa action, switch off your brain and kill kill kill. Even iD can't do iD anymore like these guys; if you watch the movies you'll see what I mean.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->You play as Daniel Garner, a seemingly regular guy who has just been killed in an horrific car accident. Trapped in a dark and unwelcoming world between heaven and hell, you struggle to uncover the reasons why you?ve been denied entry into heaven. Awaiting your purification, you must fight through a seemingly endless number of demon soldiers as you attempt to stop an imminent unholy war.

ENGINE:
The proprietary PAIN Engine puts out 100X the polygons of the latest shooters, while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques. Plug in the Havok 2.0 physics engine, and you get a realistic environment in a totally fantastical setting. The game features 24 single-player levels, each entirely unique with virtually no texture reuse between levels. The average level is 350,000 polygons, and also incorporates advanced vertex and pixel shaders, including water, glass, volumetric lights and fog, etc.

MULTIPLAYER:
Painkiller's Multiplayer mode is powered by GameSpy for in-game and external server browsing. We're currently targeting 32-player servers with the following 5 modes:

1) Deathmatch - The objective in Deathmatch is to kill as many opponents as possible. The player is on his own, playing in "me against the world" fashion.

2) Team Deathmatch - A mutation of Deathmatch, in which the competition is between teams made up of a number of players, trying to outkill the other teams.

3) People Can Fly - A modification of Deathmatch 1 on 1. In this mode both players have only the Rocket Launchers. The damage to the other player can be done only when he is airborne: it can be done by shooting the rocket exactly under the enemy's feet.

4) Voosh - Voosh is a multiplayer mode in which each player has the same weapon. After a certain period of time each player's weapon is switched to either the next in line (set by the server), or a random one.). All weapons have infinite ammo.

5) The Light Bearer - This mode assumes that Quad Damage never wears off. The first player who takes the Quad, can use it as long as he stays alive. Also, with every successful frag, the player gets +10 HP. When he is dead, he drops the Quad, and another player can pick it up. The winner is a person who has the Quad at the end of the game. However, every time someone picks up the Quad, the limit time is raised by 30 seconds, to make it possible for other players to get their chance.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>The Fall: Last days of Gaia </b>
<a href='http://www.the-fall.com/e/index.php?menu=news' target='_blank'>http://www.the-fall.com/e/index.php?menu=news</a>

Yay for the year of the sci-fi RPG! Fallout 3 cancellation got you down? Here's ANOTHER replacement:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Innovative 3D role-playing game illustrates a haunting, non-linear

<b>Gangland</b>
<a href='http://www.mediamobsters.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.mediamobsters.com/</a>

Well, the ones you described, 3 I heard of.

Painkiller to me looks like wannabe doom.
Gangland looks like commandos in the 30s.
    The Bard's Tale looks kickass.

And the other obvious ones...well, DUH!

As for my "Most Anticipated Game List":

    10. Halo 2
    9. The Sims 2
    8. Black & White 2
    7. Final Fantasy XII
    6. Unreal Tournament 2004
    5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. : Oblivion Lost
    4. Natural Selection 3.1(aka, 4.0 heheheheh)
    3. Soldner: Secret Wars
    2. Half-Life 2
    1. Call of Duty 2(they've already started work on it!)

And oddly enough, those are the only ones I'm actually waiting for.

The Bards tale site had me giggling, some of the reactions of the characters on that front page could keep you entertained for ages XD

Outside of the obvious (PainKiller, HL2, etc), I'm looking forward to a korean game that's being redone in english; it's in beta-testing in korea as we speak so maybe I'm being a bit hopeful about when we'll see it but still... =3

    <a href='http://www.mabinogi.com' target='_blank'>Korean Site</a> (watch the video there, it's worth it =D )

To be honest, other than the "big games" (Doom 3, HL2, etc) there's only really one title i'm actually really looking forward to.

    <b>Fatal Frame 2: The Crimson Butterfly</b> <span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(<a href='http://www.fatalframe2.com/' target='_blank'>fatalframe2.com</a>)</span>:
The follow up to the hugely underrated Fatal Frame (Otherwise known as Project Zero here in the UK) is set to be just bigger, scarier and better than it's predecessor. It's survival horror, but it actually does something neither Resident Evil or Silent Hill have ever been able to do, and that's induce actual fear, not just cheap shocks or grotesque visuals.

The original had an atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a chainsaw. It just oozed style, and while it's easy to pick up, the story and experience of it all just keeps you gripped. Unfortunately, it would appear that it won't be getting a UK release. They may change their mind about this (Hopefully) and if it does grace our shores, i will be first in line to buy this one.

    What about Far Cry?
  • TequilaTequila Join Date: 2003-08-13 Member: 19660Members
    Half-Life 2 above all.
Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Outbreak
    Far Cry
    Stalker
    Doom 3
Call of Duty 2 (fingers crossed for use of the Source engine)
    Max Payne 3

    Plus a whole lot more...

Guess you don't know what <b>anticipated</b> means...

Bard's Tale looks iffy... not to good.
Painkiller looks like a FPS Gouls 'n' Goblins.
The Fall... Jagged Alliance now in 3D. Probably going to suck just as much too.
Gangland, not to RTS so can't say much.
I'd add FarCry to the list, because it looks ALOT better then any of those mentioned.

The post-apocalyptic game Troika is making is more interesting to me than The Fall: Last Days of Gaia. Can you trust a game that has "Gaia" in the title? My judgment may be superficial, but I'm willing to trust my intuition when it comes to foreign rip-offs. Actually, it's more off a rip-off of Fallout: Tactics than the RPG Fallout games, and that scares me.

    <a href='http://www.stalker-game.com/' target='_blank'>duh'</a> and <a href='http://www.planetsoldner.com/' target='_blank'>duh'</a>.
You seem to be living behind the moon (or in other words : the general discussion forum <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). As of my list:
    1. Half-Life 2 (of course)
    2. Doom 3 (yus , I still think its going to be great)
    3. Stalker
    4. World of Warcraft
    5. Final Fantasy XII
    6. Far Cry
