<div class="IPBDescription">Question about map types</div>hello,
Nice to see another quality game in development which makes me even happier to see that I am getting tons of use out of halflife. I am new to the NS forum, and hope to write a number of good posts.
I was wondering about the different map types in NS. From what I have read so far 1.0 will only have a RTS style game type but with different types. This is good, but will there be more map types. I was thinking of game type in which the aliens have the numerical advantage, but the marines have better terrain. You know a map type in which the marines get rewarded for making the aliens pay for taking every patch of ground, and where they get past the fact the enemy has more troops.
Some of histories most interesting battles are the ones in which the smaller side beats the crap out of a larger armor due to better tactics and leadership. Maybe reward the marine team RP for hold off x amount of minutes and also killing aliens (not as heavily weighted RP wise). I guess this gametype could be called Alamo or something along that line.

etalian

So I guess in 1.0 there will only be the AvM gametype (RTS style). Maybe in future releases there will be more gametypes. I guess the team has their hands full working on the foundation.

Or a deathmatch with everyone spawning as a Marine with heavy armour and an HMG.
hostages? bombs? h4x?
maybe all three :o
A lot like all the para maps in DoD.
If you've played "Infantry" you probably know what I mean. In that game (free massively multi-player game from sony(might be different now...)) every soldier is equipped with a personal teleporter that allows him to teleport to any teammate provided he has enough energy. Most people play capture the flag where the object is to find 4 flags on the HUGE maps and then take them somewhere before they drop (like 30 secs or something) once your team has all 4, you have to hold them for a minute or two and then you win! With the teleporting and choosing of your own base, reinforcements could be called in for both offense and defence. The result was LLLLLLLLOOOOONNNNNNNGGGG FUN battles where everyone on one side worked many strategies to keep up to 4 flags from being taken, while the other did the same to take them. EVERYONE even had personally made macros for almost EVERY situation they could think of to help the team or get help- more importantly: THEY WORKED!
I see etalian's idea as a way to reproduce this easily, but i think many NS games will go this direction on thier own, only they will be fighting over hives and resource nodes instead of flags. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
P.S. the NS crew isn't the ONLY who can make those types of maps. The community can to, then submit them and they can be added (if they are fun of course).
P.P.S. Contrary to my number of posts, I have been following this mod FOREVER.... but there isn't a teleporter, right?
Bahahaha, so true it hurts... CS was all downhill since it went retail. stupid cheaters... whitch reminds me, is VAC going to be a part of NS? what kind of anti-cheat measures are going to be built in? (if any)
