Low Fps On A Geforce Fx Ultra?

<div class="IPBDescription">... WHAT?! Please help me!</div> Hey everyone, here are my system specs:
1.8 ghz Pentium 4 (NON Hyper Threading)
512 megs of SDram
128 mb Geforce FX 5600 ULTRA (unfortunately, my crapa** Sony computer only has an AGP 4X bus)

I reformatted and I tweaked my system according to MonsE's Zen XP Tweaking Guide.

I am currently running NS on 1024 x 768 Resolution with HIGH QUALITY MODELS enabled.

I have also disabled VSYNC on my Geforce FX.

Now, I have two questions
1) I set up fps_max 100 in my config.cfg file in my NS Folder. However, every time I get INTO a game, my MAX Fps is ALWAYS 72. When I go back to config.cfg, fps_max is set back to 72.0. AHH!!! I checked and my config.cfg is not on readonly AND I made sure that I absolutely saved it after I made the fps change. Why does my config.cfg revert to fps_max 72 EVERY time (at least after i join a game)

2) Also, i'm shooting at something or when the screen gets busy, my FPS drops to like 27 FAST. I read on other posts that people with Geforce 4's get almost CONSTANT 100 fps. Why do I, with a Geforce FX 5600 Ultra get crud fps?

Please help me! thanx and happy holidays everyone!
