i have tried this.. alot.. cos it would be useful.. but it just doesnt work. :S

so yeah, any of you actually manage to get those quick 30 min refreshment breaks?

You have it all wrong, you need to take a 30 comma if you want to feel refreshed!
The only way it really works good is if you are DEAD TIRED!
Than even closing your eyes can send you into R.E.M. Sleep.

It works for me all the time, I close my eyes and doze off for 10 mins and wake up move around and are ready to go, go, go!

I hate it when I'm so tired that I can't stop nodding off. Even worse, when I wake up, I awake with a start and can't work out whether I've been asleep for 30 seconds or 5 hours.

Day napping is the doom for me... If I nap 5 minutes or more, I'm dead... Become a zombie, almost literally... My head hurts, I'm dizzy, feels like I'll die from an arrest any moment... Sucks...

I've had some success with power napping. I've been workin at FedEx all semester, which means waking up at 4:40 and working till 9 then taking a 45 min nap before class. It doesn't really leave you refreshed, just functional. Also, you really have to get in the rhythm of doing it every day for a month or so before seeing any benefit. Also, I find that if I wake up for any reason I'll want to just go back to sleep, but thats what gets you in trouble; once you wake up, you have to start doing something active right away or else you'll just be dead for the rest of the day.

Same happens to me: I fall asleep when I'm wrecked, and wake not knowing if it's the next day or whether I haven't even been asleep an hour... plus you just don't feel right, I can't put my finger on it but it's not a nice feeling.

my college friends say that the customary length is 20 minutes. if you go past 40 you go into deep sleep, supposedly, and waking up in the middle of deep sleep leaves you groggy and hung over. like every morning.

From my psych class last year:

Humans sleep in a 1 hour 30 minute rhythm (give or take a few minutes), except when you're extremely tired. That means you'll go through your stages of sleep, and end up back at the lightest stage of sleep in an hour and thirty minutes. So you want to set the time you sleep based on that, 1:30, 3:00, 4:30, 6:00...

Of course, that's for your brain to get all refreshed and stuff. Generally in school I would be all tired, until I put my head on my chin and napped for 10-15 minutes. Then I'd be perfect the rest of the day. Of course, I would be fine the rest of the day had I not been at school...but that's beside the point. Junior year I always slept in Advanced Algebra, only almost got caught once.

"What's the answer to number 42?" Guy behind me taps me on the shoulder..."Do you know the answer to 42?"

"Errr, yea, i^2"

Ahhh, math, what a relaxing class . Now, applied math like Physics...there's something I can stay awake to.

Back when I played this one mmorpg. I would stay up 36+ hours and then sleep 45mins and do it again and I was fine. So I think it works great.

I usually find out that if you're really tired and sleep 1-2 hours, it's worse than not sleeping at all. I figured it was something like "going into sleep mode" and my body isn't ready to be torn away from its much needed sleep. If you're not REALLY tired, then for some reason it wouldn't go into "supah-leet recovery mode" and just be ready to be back in whenever awoken.

Of course, that's my imagination working/interpretating my sleep, but that's about how I could explain it if I could.

I had great succes napping for about 40mins when I was having jetlag problems on my trip to Ireland. But you need to keep the room bright, keep your clothes on and dont let yourself get too warm. I used to close my eyes and listen to my minidisc player and fall asleep to the music. The trick is to not let yourself fall into a deep sleep. Upon getting up theres a period of minor drowsiness but it used to pass within 5 minutes leaving me very refreshed.

ahh, I hate napping. Especially when it's unintentional and I just conk out right in the middle of reading something for school.
1) I dont remember anything I read while I was tired
2) I awake covered in sweat on the couch 3 hours later
3) those 3 hours of sleep are redeemed by looking at the clock for 3 hours after I goto bed
4) the next day I am dead tired cus I only got 4 hours of sleep
