<div class="IPBDescription">A NS modelling suggestion...</div> Hey I thought since everyone is making stupid models like santa caps for marines and suggestions such as a photocopier GL this would be one of the more sane ideas modellers may have read! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
yes thats right, LASERS!

If the bullets in NS aka shell.mdl and pshell.mdl was changed into a neon type laser shot how cool would that look rather than yellow bullet tracing going off! Fit more into the sci fi theme in my head anyway......

Anyway if someone can do it I can't see it taking much time but it can make a huge difference to the game!
I have the blue muzzle flashes so all I'd have to do is add in laser sounds for the guns and let the NEW laser shells take my NS into another dimension!!!!!

Thanks for listening! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

PS: maybe different laser colours to choose from would be cool too.

    shell.mdl and pshell.mdl are the model of the bullet casing that is ejected from the gun, I don't see how changing that into a laser would help...

    You can change the colour of the tracers. I think the commands are:

    tracerred X
    tracergreen Y
    tracerblue Z

    -replace the X, Y, and Z with values from 0 to 255

    edit: oh, and traceralpha [value] to set the brightness of the tracers.

    You wouldn't happen to know the command to adjust the length of the trail?

    If it's the same tracer coding as TFC (Which would be standard HL I assume) then you can do a good deal of things with em. My freind was making the HW's AC shots slo mo and bunched up, I could ask him if you want.

    traceroffset x
    tracerlength x
    tracerred x
    tracerblue x
    tracergreen x
    traceralpha x
    tracerspeed x
    x is variable of course

    now have fun with colorz <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <span style='color:red'>--</span><span style='color:blue'>---</span>--<span style='color:yellow'>--</span>-<span style='color:green'>--</span>-<span style='color:gray'>-</span>

    Right, so I got down to experimenting with the idea, and here are the results:
    First, take your choice of colour, by mixing tracerred, tracergreen and tracerblue.

    For a nice pulse laser effect (fast and short bursts):
    tracerspeed 3000
    tracerlength 0.1 to 0.5 (0.25 works quite well)
    traceralpha 0.75

    For Star Wars-style lasers (long and slow beams):
    tracerspeed 1500
    tracerlength 1+
    traceralpha 0.75

    Changing the tracers will also change the light beams that appear when something gets phased, such as when Marine spawn by Distress Beacon, or when they go into a Phase Gate.

    [edit]After further experimentation, I've noted that tracers only seem to appear after a functional Phase Gate exists. A functional Phase Gate uses the 'tracer' settings above, and seems to 'activate' them for the guns.[/edit]

    now I could (again <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) request the conversion of some of the weapons from Jedi Knight <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    /edit: fixed bad english (I hope <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    These commands go in the console, or can they be put into a *.cfg file?

    I made a new config file with these commands (laser.cfg) and started it from the autoexec.cfg => works <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    OK, that makes sense, easy to remove, but what's the command to exec the new *.cfg file? I spent my time coding T2, not HL... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
