Important Discovery!- Skulk Chuckle!

Renegade.Renegade. Join Date: 2003-01-15 Member: 12313Members, Constellation
<div class="IPBDescription">Skulk Chuckle is a Rip-Off!</div> I just got home from a kick-**** party, 2:30 and nothing to do, so I decide to fool around with Starcraft. I decided to find some easter eggs. Well, every1 knows if u click units multiple times they say something funny. I decided to apply this easter egg to a Ryhnadon (native creatures of the Badlands maps). To my suprise i found that, when clicked, a Ryhnadon makes 2 different responses, one of which sounds EXACTLY like the infamous skulk chuckle (as was previously made popular by my fellow script users!).
So i guess i just wanted to share that little suprise and ask if n e one knew of this b4 and if the creators (particulary sound directors) copied sound effects
(Oh and btw if this was already previously posted I apologize but its not my fault seeming as I already made a post about links not working in the forum, i.e not being able to perform any kind of forum search, upload avatars, or anything that requires uploading to the server (seems to affect only a few forum users).)
Granted, it does sound cool, but originality sounds better!

Many of the sounds in NS are public domain. They aren't ripoffs from anything. They were sounds someone made up and released for anyone to use. NS didn't "Rip-off" anything.

Are you implying that those sounds have been on "Public Domain" since Starcraft 1.0???!!! I doubt it!
Its most likely that since Starcraft is such an old game, the sounds featured in it had to be original since it was a trend-setter. A lone artist putting a sound on public domain to be used by Starcraft: higly unlikely......
Blizzard putting their sounds up for public domain: more probable. But that still results in a rip-off.
(okay, maybe rip-off is a little harsh, I mean where would we be without rip-offs ... Millie-Vanillie, No-name products, Britney Spears/Pink/Christina A., etc...., let's just say "borrowed" then)

Yep, definately agree, would have felt better off about NS not knowing that. But I guess corners were made to be cut (milk-bag theory)

lol.. btw man ur quotes are a lil off...
The first one is from the bible (by Jesus, my homeboy) and is pertaining to a rich man entering heaven (but then again maybe you knew that, i dunno , sorry if u did)
and the second one (the coolest lil dude i-ninja, goes "No one is taller than the last man standing")
Sorry to be picky... but im just helpin you out cuz qoutes come up every message (and so do the errors in them)!

Brig... whining and "pointing out" something are at opposets with each other, learn the difference. Did i ever once say something like "OOOH OMG FLayra CHANGE NS 3.0 so it has an original skulk chuckle!". No i don't believe I did. And as i said b4 sorry but the search function doesnt work (browser problem or forum i dunno!)
So to recap... in my original message i just wanted to simply point it out; and wanted to know if n e one knew of it (not to whine, change, or take it out of the game, etc.)
(Guess i asking for trouble with that forum title! *sigh*, just tryin to make it lively, draw some attention to it (tho it did, but negative))
And as for the drugs.... only the good stuff (j/k i got virgin lungs baby!.... lol but my liver's a slut!)

Use the search feature. If you indeed made a post concerning not being able to use the search function than you would have found out how to do it.

yeah.. it's important to understand that a few sound guys don't create <b>every</b> footstep, ricochet, shell ejection, steam vent, alien chuckle, hiss, rain drop, or any other sound effect.. from scratch.

they don't just walk around sampling stuff constantly.

there are, of course, companies that specialize in compiling various sound effects, then releasing them on discs. you can buy sets of these discs that contain a wide assortment of sound effects, like lasers, heavy hydraulics, wind, rain, thunder... etc, etc, etc.

probably anything you can think of.. even sarcastic chuckles. =P

other stuff is just around and is out for free. so they may well be the same.. wouldn't be unlikely that Blizzard went and got the same sound.. even with its popularity, StarCraft's production values don't seem quite that high.

Who said it was even starcraft's sound to begin with, they might have gotten it somewhere else, but either way, does it matter?

First of all, this is old news...
Second, you can buy sounds on CDs that include such sounds as seen on Starcraft ™ and Natural-Selection ™

Why isnt this thread locked yet?

*Sigh* I thought the fact sound companies dont make all the sounds from scratch every time was obvious, aparently not. And also, why would anyone care if they are the same It hardly important really is it?

Errrm, it came from one of the generic sound packs, afaik. There's quite a lot of them.

Starcraft had quite a few sounds from generic packs, as do a lot of games these days.

Quite correct, many of the Starcraft sounds were from generic sound tracks. I was watching Read Or Die (an anime series) the other day, and someone plugged a computer in and the sound was exactly the same as when you get in a command console. I've watched Aliens and heard doors from Starcraft and NS open up. There are just some generic sounds that float around and are used by a wide variety of games and movies. There's no rip-off or copyright infringements. The chuckle sounds cool regardless of where it was used in any other program or game or movie.

I heard a Natural Selection sound effect in Halo - the sound you get when you activate the light bridge in the middle of the 'Halo' mission has the same 'ker-click' as you get when you (I think) drop a health pack or ammo in Natural Selection.

The effects are taken from big sound libraries - and you can often hear them in the weirdest places. I'm sure I heard an NS gun sound in the trailer for some children's television programme. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I heard a sound in Stargate when they pressed a button - it sounded exactly like one of the buttons in HL to open a door/elevator.
