Help a friend
Hi, This is only one of two communities, really, other than my friends around university...and they are in a spot and a half when it comes to what I'm about to ask.

Basically, I have a friend that is trying to break into the market of photography, she's amazingly good at what she does, I feel...take a look at her stuff if you like...Her Stuff

A month ago or so, she got her camera stolen, it's about £200 ($300) worth of equipment that has gone, that now puts her in catch 22...she needs the camera to work, but she needs the work to get the camera. You can see the situation.

Cut a long story short, I'm trying to do her a favour for being a good friend, I can front some of the cash, but I can't do it all...so I'm wishing upon the kindness of the two large communities I'm in to come up with the money. I know this sounds REALLY sleazy, it sounds perhaps like a con...but if you don't believe me 100%, then just don't donate some money...I'll understand, I probably wouldn't even give anything if I saw this post myself! But if there are any of you out there that have looked at her work, like what you see, believe what I'm telling you (I'm a constellation member in the UK, so you've no doubt seen me around here and there, add me on steam with the email below if you like), and can afford to just give like £5-£10 ($10-$15) then please help a girl out.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, if you have ANY questions then just drop me a PM or an email at la_grief@hotmail.com. I hope you can help, as it really would only take a generous dozen or so people to actually help my friend back on to her feet again.

Just to re-itterate, if any of you don't believe this, then don't sully this thread by posting about what crap it is or whatever, just pass it by...I really don't care, you don't have to donate anything at all, it'd just be a nice show of how good human nature can be.

If you can and do want to help, then please pay la_grief@hotmail.com through paypal, honestly anything you can give would be amazing, and you will be remembered...I just hope that I can do enough to make that rememberance count to help you in return one day.

Edit: Ok, sorted out a one click system, I think!

I'd suggest setting up some method for people to donate, if you're hoping they will maybe one of those amazon.com wish lists, find the camera she wants and give the link to the wish list... or can people only buy those things in full and not donate SOME money towards them?

maybe a paypal account people can donate to...

just tossing out some ideas. I think people would be willing to donate a buck or a few bucks if all they had to do was click on a link...

My computer is set up on the floor of my room to make room for guests so if it is kind of tough to type while looking at an odd angle. Anyways, her work is very sound; some photos are redundant captures of the last few, but overall it conveys emotion pretty well.

About the donation, it sounds iffy.

That it does, I can't explain why I'm doing this, nor why I expect at least a handful of people to help her out on this one...maybe it's just something about christmas

Thanks for the feedback though, I'll make sure that she gets the (good) feedback you guys are giving

I'll have an ask! I'm no camera expert, I just use my family camera when I need it, point, and click

    I'll get back to you...

Is it that hard for her to buy one herself, without the help of strangers? I'm not trying to be rude, but there are many things I want too but I have to work for them....

if only we were all made of money I'm a student, I'm giving her what I can out of my next loan payment, and it'll make up the bulk of what she gets. If I had a job which paid more than the $50 a week it currently pays me, and if I didn't have to worry about paying back about $4500 of loan per year I'm at uni (4 years) after I leave, I'd give everything I could to help her out.

As it is, this has happened perhaps 5 years to early for me to do such a thing.

If she's doing serious photography, she'll need a through-the-lens 35mm camera, one of those super-****-expensive ones. $300 would buy only a halfway decent regular one. I mean, I guess if that's what she wants for Christmas... but I think that $300 was ONLY the extras (Flash, lenses). The one I use is fairly old but runs at $800 to $1200.

Yeah, she's said...thankfully (for the sake of helping her out here) she's not into serious photography yet, just doing enough to get her a job, and to break in to the industry. Once she's there I'm sure she'll kit herself out fully thanks to the funds her job will give her. *shrugs*

Anyway, I have to go bed, got to go into Uni to do some extra work tomorrow, should have gone hours ago really Thanks honestly, and I wouldn't exactly call a large number of you strangers either, more distant aquaintances.

I'm handing the stuff over to her at the end of january, so if any of you want to give anything in the new year, thats cool too

Unlucky on the lack of job front

I'd mainly be pressuring the people that are really comfortable and can afford to go to mcdonalds every day twice a day to give $10 or so, personally

I have got to say again, between the two communities, I've gotten an amazingly good responce, better than I expected...so thanks again.
