Question On Charge

<div class="IPBDescription">What the Heck does it do?</div> I was just wondering what exactly does charge accomplish besides making you go faster? I try using it as a weapon, but marines just jump around an they don't seem to die as fast as poking them with my horn... so it Charge just there to get somewhere quickly and/or escape battle or does it serve a usefull combat purpose?

Yes charge does do damage, but it seems almost like... NOTHING....

    "Damage: Enormus" = pinprick
I've only seen one charge kill, and that was after a game, with 3 onos stomping the last guy and one charging him again and again.... I really hope they turn up that damage level

I've seen plenty of charge kills. Dont forget that you can use your other attacks whilst charging as well. When your attacking buildings you've gotta keep on moving forward into them (walking makes it easier to control and doesnt reduce the damage dealt).

If any of this is wrong then forgive me, I havent been an onos in a while.

Charge and leap were both powerful in 1.04 and early 2.0 until they removed the fps dependencies on both and limited them to the pitiful existence they are now. However if you look at the change logs one of the first things they did was to increase both charge and leap damage, hopefully making them viable again.

a simple dmg upper wont do da trik 4 charge. charge is a 3 hive ability 4 da most powaful alien species. we r talking at least 220 res here. u pay 220 res to do a wimpy charge that doesnt do ****. it needs to b kill-on-contact or sumthing similar 4 ppl to even consider it.

The reason that charge doesn't work properly is because of your ping. Even a ping under 100ms will sometimes have problems using charge because HL blocks you from walking into other people (marines). So if that marine is running backwards and your charging forwards, you will NEVER 'touch' the marine due to the collision detection method. It might seem a bit shady, but if you use 'cl_solid_players 0' then it removes this behavior from HL and you can 'walk through' players in your vision, but you still will get stopped by the server and it will count as a 'touch'.

If you aren't either holding forward (to press against them) or standing on them, you will do next to 0 damage. For best results, do things that make that easier (walking to move slower and not run past target, jam up against multiple targets for more damage, etc.).

Or save your energy for gore and stomp, which are actually useful.

Charge was very powerful when it simply did more damage so a balanced rise in damage would make it useful and better. Also as noted in the tips above, just like leap/bite you can charge/gore to maximize the damage effect. Right now it may seem worthless but with significant damage boost it will be fine.

The other thing that has been suggested is making charge do siege damage too. Another option is to change it back to 2 hive ability and make stomp at 3. They switched them when stomp still did "enormous" damage and vets were dropping res nodes in seconds. With the outcry of nerf stomp, moving it to the 3rd hive would make it the game ender that it sometimes already is.

I forgot to ask: are you using 2.01 or 3.0 charge? There's been a pretty big increase in charge damage in 3.0.

Try standing on top of a marine building and charge, that should work.

If you have adrenaline, you can devour someone and then Charge to speed yourself away.

Charge is handy for the speed kick if you've went for something other than celerity. I like to hit charge then switch to devour/gore, do some damage, then run out the door. Hitting charge last can be fatal as it has a bit of wind up time.

Secondly, nothing can really catch you when you charge - great for hit n run attacks in corridors.
