Mousewheel Binding Problemo

i put the pre-steam version of HL back on my computer to be able to play ns on some WON servers, and I can't bind my jump spam script onto my mousewheel anymore. the script works, but nothing binds to my mousewheel. in the steam ns, it works. anyone know why? it also worked before i got rid of that version of HL. i did a search, and nothing answering my question came up.

    Are you just using this?

    bind mwheeldown "+jump"
    bind mwheelup "+jump"

How do you know it didn't bind? Did you type in <bind mwheeldown> and not see "+jump"?

    It's this simple: dont use scripts. Practice makes perfect <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

if binding a key is a "script", how do you play NS? Cheater.

stoog said he couldn't bind his "jump spam <b>script</b>" in his opening post, which is probably just something that presses jump over and over again. Not sure why you would need that, but that is still a script.

Granted that's probably not what is messing up his config problems... but it could be darnit.

I type "+forward" "-forward" "+jump" and the likes in the console as need be. You mean there's OTHER ways to play?!?

Stoog, how do you know if the script works if you can't bind it? :/

yes, my jump spam script just executes the jump command 4 times. scrolling the mousewheel helps me time it. plus my keyboard setup is messed up anyway, so it's hard for me to be able to bunnyhop and control myself. plus, i asked if anyone knew what was wrong, not to criticize me for using my mousewheel to bunnyhop.

i've tried binding my mousewheel to a bunch of things. i even tried to bind the flashlight to it, but it wouldn't work.

sawce, i use the same script in tfc and in steam ns and it works fine. it's just WON ns for some reason

Sounds like the problem is you're trying to bind a +command, which tells the game to keeping doing the command till you let go of the key -command. But the mousewheel isn't a key that you hold down so it's not executing it.. (just a guess)

Try binding mwheelup to something like "impulse 7" and see if that works.

I have the same thing bound to my mousewheel in my tfc configs, in HL multiplayer, and in the steam ns configs and it works, therefore, the only thing it DOESN'T work on is the WON ns. it used to work in ns before steam came out. i have tried binding other things to the mousewheel, and they don't work.

Does it actually bind it? Type "bind mwheelup" in the console and see if it prints out what is supposed to be bound. If it does, then it is having a problem executing the command. If it doesn't, then it isn't actually binding it. If you answer that question, our responses can be more helpful.

it does print out the correct command, so it is getting bound. it also works when i bind it to any other key, but i want it on the mousewheel.

there's a bhop speed cap, and good players CAN kill bhopping skulks without much difficulty =P

Also, its like saying "i know guys who have really good aim and almost never miss a bullet. Where's the fun??!?! why not just use an aimbot?!?!?!"

Naww, they aint that bad when you get used to it, the bigger problem i get when i have to play on foreign servers and my ping gets dramatically larger, Is that when theres someone top-speed-bhopping towards me, it almost looks like their warping towards me, <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

(Winces at this one, sorry whichever mod kills me for it)

Because one is an accepted exploit of the HL engine, the other is a cheat?
Oh, and the cap is so silly it's ridiculous how fast you can get in the end.

Does binding the mousewheel in HLDM *CURRENTLY* work? Or are you just talking from previous experience? There's nothing specific to NS which would cause your mousewheel to stop being bindable. Try deleting your config.cfg and autoexec.cfg just in case though.. but that probably won't work <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

Next, the only problems I know of with HL and mwheel binding occur with the use of a Logitech mouse and Logitech MouseWare. So, if this is the case, it's easily fixable..

Okay, to answer your question, yes, it does work, I bind just +jump to both mwheelup & mwheeldown, and always have done.

after i couldn't get it to work in ns, i switched over to hldm and tried it and it worked. and yea, i've got a logitech mouse, but it works for all other halflife games/mods except WON ns. i've even tried to bind the alias' ingame, and then bind the mousewheel, yet it still won't work. i aliased it ingame in HLDM, then bound it and it worked correctly.

and way to state your pathetic 2 cents archon. besides, even if i didn't use the mousewheel for bunnyhopping, i still cannot bind anything to it. it's not just the script. flashlight, slot1/2/3/4, or anything for that matter will not work. and i again state <u>it works in everything but WON ns</u>

speaking of logitech, I've just been thinking.

What if you bind your mousewheels to something, doesn't the cruise control button things act like a spamming thing after? or is cruise control slower than I remember? *goes check*

The cruise buttons are slower then spinning the wheel. I use mwheel bound to jump to bhop, but I cannot bhop by holding the cruise button on my mx500.

And if you are using a MX3/5/700, check out my post in this thread on how to setup your drivers (no MouseWare, ofcourse.. so horrid D:). <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=36523&hl=mx500' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...=36523&hl=mx500</a>
